Very unhappy with my last visit. I live just down the street from the Surf and my wife and I go to the Surf fairly often for dinner. The food is average at best, and the menu is extremely limited, but the atmosphere, view and wait staff usually make it an enjoyable outing. I ordered two bowls of clam chowder for takeout on Monday and that will be the last of my money spent in that establishment. The chowder was expensive at over $30 for two bowls and even though I live a few doors away, it was warm, but not hot when I got home. It was edible, but definitely not something I would order again. The real insult was the garlic toast. Each order is supposed to come with two slices of garlic toast. What I received was two skinny, burnt pieces in total - one about 4" long and the other 2" long. They were hard and inedible. A very disappointing experience.

The Surf is my go-to Gabriola restaurant. Amazing ocean view looking up Georgia Strait towards Nanaimo. Historic log building with accommodations available. Lovely staff. (Pity they were out of my favourite seafood dish at the end of the long weekend.) I love you, Surf Lodge!
