We were happy to book this hostel last minute over a long weekend. The location is great, because you are walking distance to all the shops and restaurants downtown. While I can't speak to the experiences other reviewers had, I personally had a nice stay. We were able to get a private room for the 4 of us for a good price, it was clean, quiet, and had everything we needed. I thought Maggie (the owner) was a kind and lovely woman. She stayed up late waiting for us to arrive from Vancouver, and I did not feel like she was annoyed or pushy. She was friendly, and even accommodated for a last minute guest cancellation that we had, which most hotels/hostels would not offer. Overall, the place is solid, but modest. It is not a hipster, modern, 'high end' hostel, but it has a good vibe. The showers were fine but smaller, the kitchen is a decent size. There was a common area but we were busy and I didn't have a chance to socialize with other travelers except my own group. Having traveled quite a bit across Nepal, Europe, and South America, I just don't think that people in Canada are ready for hostels yet. Based on some of what I have read, many complaints are actually standard practice in hostels (i.e. bring your own towel), or people moving at random times. I hope that the hostel culture will improve, because it is a great concept. And I hope that more people will be open minded to the different experiences they can have during their travels, because you never know where you could meet someone amazing.

As some one who was tricked to living there, I will be honest in sharing my story. For students that found her ad for renting to students. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. The land lady Maggie Wang tricks students and mainly focuses on scamming international students. My experience here was hell along with many of the other tenants. When you try to move out she forces you to pay a large to do so. It is not legal and do not listen to anything she says. I wish I had received warnings before I moved in but I was fortunate enough to be rescued by the University. She has cameras all over the house watching. She is very creepy and will eavesdrop and enter your rooms when ever she likes. Do not rent here at all costs. You will regret it.

I did my best to like this place and I don't really like this place...

This place is the worst place on earth. Maggie Wang will burn in hell, mark my words, I have never met such a nasty person in my life. Don't give this women your money. She will face misfortune for all the people she has screwed over. Don't be one of her victims. Do not come here

Made reservation in advance. No reservation at our arrival. Office not open eventhough it should have been opened. Were proposed to share a double bed for 3 people. We should have left our luggage in the car. The car should have been parked on the road. We did not stay there as it seemed to be a very unfriendly place. We checked the garden and were shocked how it looked like. Nothing for guests! Do not even think about staying there for 5 minutes. Get far away from this place! There is no star showing the real star for this place.
