Beautiful people, clean rooms, affordable prices for gas town VANCOUVER!!! yes, the building is old and yes, there are many homeless near by - but so there are in another parts of Vancouver as well. Security is always on Site - and building itself has high-security - you cannot get in unless they know you!

One of the best places to stay in Downtown, Vancouver, specially if you're a student with a low buffet to spend monthly. The staff is really kind and the amenities included (wifi, room service, laundry, be machines and so forth) are ok.

I stayed at the Columbia Hotel from September to December in 2010 while studying Art History at Capilano. The room was large enough for an easel in the corner of the room, a yoga mat and a few plants. The space was charming. It was nice to be able to study without the stress of roommates. I bought myself a mini fridge at nearby london drugs because the unit provided by the hotel (for a fee) failed to keep food cold. The room attendants were very friendly and thorough in cleaning. I kept the space very clean myself. I never saw a cockroach or bed bug in the room but was aware of them. It was embarrassing having to pay $20 for a visitor to come up to the room. Despite the many common areas the hotel did not welcome the friends of it’s tenants. The washrooms were freshly renovated and kept clean. At the time there was no communal kitchen, only meals provided by the bar for a fee (I set up a small kitchenette atop my fridge beside the sink in the room.) I slept fine with earplugs despite the music from downstairs. I didn’t bother trying to watch the TV or use the hotels wifi - I spent most of my time exploring Gastown and Chinatown. I would stay here again. Sure it has pests, noise and sketchy neighbours but the price is right for downtown Vancouver.
