DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! COPS WERE CALLED OUT!!! GENERAL MANAGER CALLED CUSTOMER STUPID AND HANG UP ON CUSTOMER!!!
I checked in on 22nd of July, 2015 and gave a deposit of $100 in U.S. currency, which I have in writing. The U.S. currency is worth more than the Canadian currency, it was approximately $100 in U.S. currency to $129 in Canadian. When I went to check out on the 30th of July, 2015, the hotel manager Helen W., who is b*** said she didn't have $100 in U.S. currency to give back to me and all she can give me was $ 100 in Canadian currency. I advise her that, she is shorting me at least $25. She said if she gave me $125, she would be out $25. I told her, she have my $100 in U.S. currency, so how would she be out $25? She couldn't explain that and told me to either take or leave it. Even though she had a $100 in U.S. currency in the cash register from another customer deposit from the night before and I ask why get that $100, her replied was she doesn’t know when they going to be checking out. So I asked her, where is my deposit? She said it is at the bank and she couldn’t go get it. They don’t keep that kind of money around. They didn’t have any problem take it, however. Then I ask to speak to the general manager. She told me that he doesn't get in until 9:30 am and it's about 8 am then. I advised her I would like her to call the cops. The cops were called and they came out. As soon she heard the cops were coming out, she said she had spoken to bookkeeper and she could give $125 in Canadian currency. I decided to wait until the cops to come to make sure that this was a fair deal. I no longer trusted that hotel. But, to have to call the cops to get them to give my money back, what does that speak of the hotel. I still have to pay an exchange fee to get the Canadian currency to be exchange into U.S currency. I am leaving Canada. I have no need for Canadian currency. So how is, that is okay for them to take my deposit in U.S. currency and yet not have it available for me when I leave. A deposit is hold on money and that you will get back, right? I wanted my deposit back in U.S. currency. I called and spoke to the general manage Norman Brady who is an ass****. I explain the situation and how I was treated. He explained that the clerk had made a mistake to take the $100 in U.S. currency for the deposit in the first place and she was supposed to contact me and fix it. I was there for nine days, no one contact me. I asked why didn’t anyone contacted me then. He said that he didn’t know. Then I asked him if wasn’t his job as the general manager to prevent such a mistake from taking place in the first place. He didn’t have a response to that question either. I advised him I had to call the cops to get the additional $25 that I was owed. He proceeded to tell me, I was stupid to call the cops. Why would you call a customer stupid to call the cops, unless you were doing something shady. I mean if I have just accepted the $100 Canadian currency, I wonder what happen to the extra $25? I know it’s not going home with me. I wonder who it is going home with? I also wonder how many other tourists they may have taken advantage of? When I tried to get his business license because I want to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Canada, he refused to give it to me. Now, if you have nothing to hide or you are practicing fair practices, then you should have no problem, providing that information for me. Then I ask for the corporation information or CEO information because I would like to launch a formal complaint. He told me he was the CEO and hung on me. I have contact the Howard Johnson on the US side already and will contacting Better Business Bureau Canada tomorrow. The experience at this hotel is enough is scar me for a lifetime. I am never going back to this hotel again. I did nothing wrong. All I wanted was my deposit back. I gave them a $100 U.S. currency deposit and that is what I expected back, instead they made me go through all this and no apologies.
