This hotel is rather outdated, though limited attempts have been made to renovate it. Upon arrival, the clerk put us in a single bed room, when we had specifically requested two beds on our online booking, since I was traveling with my mother. Clerk had to call manager to confirm and put us in a double bedded room. No A/C anywhere in the building, so upper floors become stifling in the summer. Only the double bedded rooms have an extremely tiny (so tiny the toilet paper roll was digging into my side) private washroom. All other rooms share a public one on the floor. There is one power outlet near the door for the whole room AND the bathroom, which means the TV was on an extension cord, and the fridge, microwave and coffee maker on a power bar. A lamp between the beds was apparently for show. No chair or table in the room. Fridge leaked ice and water upon arrival. Terrible view. Scary weird screamo metal concert the night we got there, but we didn't hear it that much. $20 key deposit announced only upon arrival. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. They put us on a 3rd floor with 0 AC on one of the hotest days of the summer. Manager refused to give a refund. Manager lied to us multiple times as well. We were charged a room key deposit of 20$ which by no means was mentioned when booking the room. We werent aware that it was a shared bathroom either. When asked to speak with the owner/someone of higher status of the buisness we were told that it was illegal for us to get their contact information. I felt bad for the other guests who had to witness my grandmother and their manager arguing, but had we been issued a rightful refund then we would have been on our way happily. It should be noted that this entire hotel is hot as balls!! Someone who was in the bar in the basement came upstairs to say it was “scorching hot” down there. I suggest this establisment invest in central AC or atleast something bigger than a desk fan for the rooms. I later had a friend call to see if they had any rooms available (as I was told I would be contacted if the room i had reserved had been re-booked) and they told her that they had MULTIPLE rooms. Meanwhile when we were there had said they were completely sold out. I cant believe the bold lies their manager is telling!!

I give my stay here a 5 star and I have been enjoying every minute for almost a week now. Throughout my stay I am always greeted with warm and genuine smiles from staff and owners. It is like one big family here with less than a handful of rules set up to respect themselves, staff and other residents. It's always exceptionally clean and quiet peaceful surroundings. I would also give a shout out to single women travelling alone would find comfort in knowing you have a close respectful staff watching out for you.. Thanks for having me it was an awesome old time experience for me.... Judy Legare

Too bad I couldn’t give negative star ratings. This hotel was atrocious. Stains. Hairs. Dirty pillows. TV that couldn’t be plugged in. Drunk employees. PUBLIC BATHROOMS. The cherry on top of the stay was our departure- as my friend and I were checking out we got screamed at by the manager for using an Expedia voucher. We quote on quote “Took advantage of their employee” because we used Expedia to get a deal on the room. Unless you are a sewer rat I would not recommend Algonquin Hotel.
