This wonderful old hotel is losing its luster. Simply put, the owners are cutting corners. The magnificent patio at rear and side is falling apart for want of upkeep. The screens in screened porches are filthy and falling apart. The metal furniture is also filthy and rusted. The exterior is in need of far more than a superficial coat of paint. The dining room has much needed new carpet and chairs but a dreadful dull new coat of paint and two truly awful oil paintings have replaced two wonderful large silver framed mirrors. The Charles needs and deserves much more than a superficial and tasteless coat of paint. It requires a major overhaul to return it to its former glory. The owners should stop short-changing the hotel and its guests.

Excellent food! Had the tenderloin and portion was small. We sat in the enclosed veranda which was nice since it was 90° outside

Spent the May long weekend at the Charles Hotel in Niagara and were beyond disappointed. The entire hotel is in disrepair. Needs paint, decks are falling apart. We stayed in the Verandah Room, which they say is one of their 'BEST' rooms, and for which they charged us a premium. It doesn't look like the picture on their website. The bed is dished out, the once 300 count Egyptian Cotton sheets and pillow cases are thread bare and torn. The bathroom floor was cracked and didn't seem to be heated as they said. Broken pane of glass in the window for bugs and small rodents to crawl through. The flat screen tv is tiny. The Verandah was falling apart with holes in the screen. The cushions on the patio furniture where old and stained. The room itself is situated next to the kitchen and right next to the exterior door and restaurant restrooms so it was noisy all the time. The only good thing about it was that it was on the 'main' street and close to shops. I would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone looking for the 'nice' hotel they show in their pictures.
