A small intimate tasting room without a view. Great variety for tasting although there are 5-6 wines that were sold out so no tasting was available. I had Pam as my host and she was quite cheery and nice. She gave me an extra taste of wine because I couldn’t decide which to buy. I ended up with a juicy merlot and had the tasting $5 fees waived. Lots of parking here and there’s a bathroom. This is the first winery you’ll see while driving up the road.

Lovely pourer and great patio with a view!

Lovely tasting location & patio. Very friendly and knowledgeable about their wine and history. Able to make great suggestions to other wineries in Naramata. Worth the visit :)

Their wines are pretty good. The tasting that they offered was very lackluster.

Snuggled in in a corner on the way to Naramata is a winery named after Sam Worthington’s character in Clash of the Titans. Generally, those visiting wineries in the—what…yes, I know Perseus was the Greek hero who saved Andromeda after beheading the Gorgon Medusa, though technically, the winery is named after the Perseus constellation, which is itself named after Sam Worthington’s character in Clash of the Titans. Credit does go to the owners willing to extol the inspiration for the name to those curious. The issue with the Penticton/Naramata region is the overabundance of options. You have amazing wineries that shut down at 5 pm at Naramata, encouraging tourists to push to the far end and work their way back to Penticton. I know that because we did it twice. Our initial journey last August was part of a much larger wine journey where my girlfriend and I visited sixty wineries over a week, bringing back 120 bottles. During our stay in Penticton, we reached all the way to Therapy before returning, hitting up wineries on the way back, running out of time by the time we made it to D’Angelo. Thankfully, we had a plan, and after checking out from our hotel the next day, we hit up the closer wineries before continuing onto Kelowna. Perseus marked the first location from this day. As such we were its first customers, hoarding all the host’s attention. Along with D’Angelo, Perseus is blessed with a passionate winemaker obviously proud of what he created. I love being sold, and this guy succeeded. Truth be told, Perseus is not as intimate as D’Angelo, and its corporate roots do shine through. The winery itself doesn’t look like much from outside, and you might be forgiven for missing it on your drive to Naramata. Inside is a spacious tasting room with a color scheme matching the bottles and the winery’s name. There’s even a telescope and dining tables, though the latter I was unsure of. The winery claims to have a kitchen though there’s no information for what they offer. I initially considered it was an interior picnic area, though that would be bizarre if not even a little ill-advised. One aspect I was sure of was the quality of its wine. Not only did we pick up a 2014 Syrah but also one of the more expensive Cabernet Sauvignon select lots, offered in one of the most breathtaking bottles acquired on our trip. Both remain unopened by this writing (and will remain so until aged the proper time). It could be said Perseus is a hidden gem, but one stashed in a stack of gems. To impart a metaphor most should notice, Perseus is like the Arkenstone from The Hobbit, shining in a sea of gold.
