I saw the signs for the winery on the highway on our way south to the border and decided to stop for a tasting. They’re currently renovating and expect to open in a couple of weeks. However, Sarah, the owner’s daughter told us about the wines and we decided to buy the Pinot noir, Pinot Grigio and Rosé without tasting. I just opened the Pinot noir for dinner tonight and it was very good!

My Fiancé and I first found this winery by accident. We were touring the local wineries and we happened to notice the sign for it on the highway. When we first pulled in we noticed the "open" flag off of the road so we knew they were open for business. You can park anywhere in the parking lot and just walk in. Upon walking in we initiated the conversation and started to taste some wine (note: tasting rosè, white, and red wines cost the same price [the price is waived if a bottle is purchased] while an ice wine tasting costs extra. Now onto the important stuff: The wine itself is fantastic. We tried the whole board of wines and we could not find one that was not to our liking. The wine is smooth, full of taste, not overly sharp (there was no lingering taste of tannin), and due to the very low level of sulphide within the wine it tasted pure. The wine left such an impact on us that when we were in the neighbourhood this year we made a detour to visit the winery. Again, the wines of this year were fantastic! I would highly recommend the Pinto Gigrio (extremely smooth, with subtle and flavourful notes), either of the blend Marèchal Foch reds (both the Rèserve and the Sèlection were fantastic), and the Rosè (reminiscent of the Rosès which I have had in Aix-en-Provence which is famous for Rosè). Bottom line: I highly recommend that you check this place out if you are in the area and strike up a conversation. The wine makers know much and are very passionate about what they do.

Where: Le Vignoble du Domaine St-Jacques, South Shore QC What: Wine tasting How was it: We were going for a Sunday drive and stopped here once we saw the signs. We previously experienced something similar in France but this was a little far from it. It felt deserted and we weren't sure if we were allowed to park or go in. Once we did enter, we were greeted and felt like we had to engage in conversation as opposed to being guided. We were surprised that we had to pay for the tasting, but were reassured that if we bought wines it would be waved. After tasting 4 different types of wines and selected a couple of bottles, we inquired about the ice wine and were again told that we had to pay for the tasting because it was a different type of wine. Kind of strange reception and rules. We left with wines but don't think we will return as they sell them in the city. Grade: Eli = 3, Serge = 3 Recommend: not so much.
