I had my RRSP's investing with the same financial advisor at BMO Nesbitt Burns for 20 years. However, I recently transferred it to TD Wealth Management/Waterhouse. I was not getting good customer service fr my financial adviser. Unlike my husband 's TD financial advisor, my BMO Nesbitt guy never invited me in for yearly " in person's reviews" of my portfolio. The BMO guy was lazy & just send me my investment info with little written notes like .... ecomony not good this term, or this stock went down etc. Then, when I was looking at retirement , I asked him for an appt, as I wanted to discuss moving my RRSP to a more conservative fund. However, when I came to my appt, he already had the paper work done & wanted me to just to sign off on it. He did down grade me to a lower plan/fund. However, I told him I wanted to discuss it further & reiterated, I still wanted into a "more conservative one". His answer was.."Well I recommend you sign off on this fund because .. my 70 year old mother is in this same one" & then he started using his salesman's blah- blah voice! It appeared to me, he just wanted his commission irregardless of what I wanted to do, even though it was my money !! Maybe the plan he wanted me in made more commission for him ? Despite this, everyone 's financial needs are different & my needs are different than his 70 year old mother ! Plus what a poor rationale to use. ... his elderly mother. Good grief & likely not even true. I went to my husband's TD financial planner & brought my BMO investments for a compliment review. He did a retirement analysis of my funds , my life style, when I plan to retire, my estimated pension etc etc and came back with figures he put in the computer. The info was all summarized in a well organized folder with time lines, figures, projections, & my retirement readiness etc. My BMO financial advisor NEVER bothered to spent time doing that with me ; especially when I told him I was looking at retiring in a few years. When I told him what the TD financial advisor did, his reply was "Well.. I could of done that too ". Such an arrogant response. The point, I wanted to make to him, was he made no effort to offer this service to me ! He was not doing his job, as to what a financial advisor should be doing for his clients.
It was like those TV bank commercials that they are running, where the customers repeat it is my money, so why are you not listening to "what is best for my future, not for your personal ( commission) gains" Not happy, I transferred my RRSP investments to TD Wealth Management. I'm not sure why my BMO Nesbitt guy was surprised when I did this. He likely felt after 20 years with him, I would still stick with him. (that tells you how arrogant he is). So when TD send my BMO guy my authorization to move all my RRSP'S , this BMO financial advisor started calling me even at my work place, all flustered. One time, he even called me at "730 am .." It was clear he was pissed, calling me that early in the morning at home ! That was soo unprofessional.... I told him my new TD Wealth Advisor had already contacted him & he should be discussing this business transfer with him.
