Don't even bother calling these clowns for telephone banking. Go into the bank, it's not worth the aggravation .

Scotiabank Sucks: We have our mortgage and car loan through Scotiabank. When we got our mortgage, our mortgage broker said the banks they work with aren't supposed to solicit. You go into the branch, sign your mortgage contract, and you're good to go. Yeah, right. Matt and I experienced a lot of pressure from Scotiabank from the getgo to get insurance, disability, etc from them. That was our first encounter. In the following months, they would send us junk mail asking us if we wanted credit cards and essentially anything under the sun that they offered. Then we got our car loan through them. The dealership we bought the car from said after we had paid a lump sum on the car we could change the terms of our loan to make the payments smaller over a longer period of time. This made sense as the bank benefits from you paying a loan off slower - it's more interest in their pocket. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. We called Scotiabank and they said if we wanted to change any terms we'd have to pay a higher interest rate. So, I had to keep my higher payment over a shorter period of time... inconvenient for me, and less money for the bank over the long run. *sigh* Then there was the property tax fiasco at the beginning of this year. Scotiabank "forgot" that we had two lots, so we had to call them to remind them to get both lots paid and then had to call them again to change our property tax deductions to the right amount as they tried to lower it based on one lot. Finally, upon returning from vacationing on PEI a few days ago, we checked the mail and found a letter from Scotiabank advising they had lost our house insurance information and if we didn't supply them with it within 60 days they would add their own insurance and charge us for it. If that's not enough, we can't give them the information through e-mail, fax, or over the phone - they demand that we come in person to one of their branches. Their branches are open the most inconvenient times possible (10am - 3pm most days here in Minto), so we have to get this done during my vacation as there won't be any time to do it after I go back to work. Thanks, Scotiabank. My 5 year mortgage term will be finished in 3 years and my car loan will be paid off even sooner, so I will shut down any and all accounts with you as soon as I possibly can.
