Sketchy admission policies not designed for success of the student but rather maximum profit for a fledgling "college." I have reached out for help but the answer I received was quite unsatisfactory. Do NOT go in debt for a program that will NOT help you. UPDATE TO OWNER'S RESPONSE: I have phoned and spoken with someone in admissions who told me over the phone that a Grade 12 was required for entry. Later phone conversations with Rita Kroeker and Wayne Palendat revealed that a Grade 12 isn't necessarily required. However, they brushed me off so I made a formal complaint with the office of Manitoba Private Vocational Institutions. FURTHER UPDATE AS of DEC 2016: Unfortunately, my complaint was made with the office of Manitoba Private Vocational Institutions after the statue of limitations (which is 12 months). I continued my pleading directly with Robertson College; however, this pleading fell on deaf ears. They stand by their initial decision that a person with a barely-passing Grade 8 education qualifies for admission to this post-secondary educational program. As this is their standard, one can imagine the quality of the program. I am advocating for a young person who was deceived into taking this program. This person - arguably for foreseeable reasons - wasn't able to complete the program. After being granted admission to this post-secondary education, this young person used the admission letter to gain government student loans and student credit with RBC. All this with a piece of paper from Robertson college. To grant admission to a person with a barely-passing Grade 8 education was incredibly I.R.R.E.S.P.O.N.S.I.B.L.E. There are only 2 ways to reconcile this in my mind. Either Robertson College knows that this Vet Office Assistant program is a laughable sub-par education and will admit anyone without any hope of success. Or, worse yet, they knew she'd fail and didn't care. Government student loans were doled out as fail-safe profit for Robertson College. Now this young person is stuck paying student loans. And, doesn't have an education. And, doesn't have a job. If Robertson College really cared about students' futures, they'd do something to make this right. She came out with $7k in debts. It's IRRESPONSIBLE and IMMORAL to put this heavy load on someone who besides having only a barely-passing Grade 8 education also has some health issues. So . . . . very . . . . wrong. FURTHER UPDATE AS OF MARCH 1, 2017: Continuing to pay off loans. Still no attempt by Robertson to communicate or make things right. FURTHER UPDATE AS OF APRIL 3, 2017: Robertson College contacted me to "reiterate that the processes and transactions associated with *****'s enrollment at Robertson College, the subsequent withdrawal and the calculations/processing of refunds all followed policies/guidelines of the College, Manitoba Student Aid and the Department of Education - Private Vocational Institutions (PVI)." Basically, he states that they followed the letter of the law in regard to refunding a small portion of tuition as dictated by law. I do not disagree with this statement. However, this fails to answer the question . . . . . why did they allow someone with a barely passing Grade 8 education into a post-secondary education program? FURTHER UPDATE AS OF MAY 15, 2017: Still working on paying the student debt. FURTHER UPDATE AS OF JUNE 26, 2017: Still working on paying the student debts. FURTHER UPDATE AS OF AUGUST 11, 2017: Still working on paying the student debts. FURTHER UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 21, 2017: Still working on paying the student debts.
