Dr. Bruce will always hold a special place in my heart. He has helped me thru so many difficult and often impossible seeming decisions. He never hesitates to help when we call at ridiculous hours and always has a kind and gentle demeanour towards the fur kids and ourselves. I appreciate this clinic beyond words

A bunch of caring people

I wish there was a negative star rating. We took our male pup here Jan 2016 for a simple neuter. When we dropped him off, we voiced our concerns to the vet and assistants there, that he is a dog that will be determined to get at his surgery incision if not monitored. And we asked if we could bring him home for the night and bring him back in the morning, because we lived right by the vet office. They told us that he would be "grogy and sleepy from the anesthetic" and that he would not ecren notice his wound and assured us they would keep a close eye on him, and cone him over night, because no one will be with him over night to watch him. They called me later in the afternoon, letting me know he was doing great after surgury, and I can pick him up the next morning. I was very upset when I saw our poor usually happy dog limping out of the back of the vet, and walking as wide as possible. I asked if he was okay, they told me after his surgery he got at his wound before they put a cone on, so they put a cone on, that they later saw was too small as he was able to lick his wound with it on.. Later that day, when they called, they did not tell me that when I asked. Overnight, he was able to get at his incision because they failed to put a proper sized cone on him. when I picked him up, they handed me a bigger cone, and told me he needs to switch because the one he has on right now is too small....I thought they would have put it on him before they left him alone for the night, already knowing that it was too small for him. Then, they had me pay over $100 extra to cover the medicine and pain meds he now needed for the infection he had from licking it overnight and the day he was being "watched". When I got him home, he was missing stitches in the middle of his wound. I brought him back, they had to fix it while I had to watch him wiggle in pain. A simple male neuter took 2 weeks to heal and he was in such terrible pain. When we confronted them, they said sometimes dogs can get at them it just happens..I warned them he would and they didn't take me serisouly. There was no attempt at concern for his well being, or an apology, they offered no support for the extra recovery time he had ahead of him, and seriously lacked compassion for our family pet. I would NEVER recommend this vet. I feel as my dog was put in pain for extra money. Plus, they did not offer to tattoo or microchip him for a fee or complimentary. Please, take your dog or any animal of yours somewhere they are valued as living beings, not as money in the bank. I hope this review is read by the staff at Shoal Lake Vet Clinic, and they take this as an opportunity to improve their services and show compassion to the animals they have in their care in the future.
