I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy. I brought my cat in this past week, for a fractured hip. My first issue in a long line of issues, was that each time I came in at my appointment time, I had to wait for at least an hour before I even saw the vet. Initially they scheduled the surgery but failed to properly talk me through pricing and what they would be doing in the surgery. When I asked about price they said anywhere from 1500 to 2k. When I spoke to the lady at the front desk she said to come in on the day of surgery and the vet would talk price with me and I would probably have to pay half up front and the rest after the surgery. When I came in on the day of surgery they told me that I need to pay $2000 up front. I didn't have that much on me at that time so I rescheduled for a few days later. I came in this morning with the full amount and they told me that they had been trying to get ahold of me to let me know that the vet had to reschedule due to a family emergency. Obviously that is understandable, but I had no missed calls or voicemails from them. I confirmed that they had my correct phone number and they just made excuses of why I might have not gone a call. They then told me that they could refer me to a place where they knew for sure I could get in today and have the surgery done. I took the number of the new place and left. When I got home I called the referal number that they gave me and turns out they dont even perform orthopedic surgery. At this point I am livid, my poor cat is in pain and not only did they lie to me about having called me to cancel surgery, but they also lied about having talked to the other animal hospital. Seven phone calls later and I finally found an emergency vet who could take care of her today. When I brought her in they looked at her scans and immediately saw why she had fractured it (abnormal growth plate) which the royal oak animal hospital vet was unable to tell me when I asked (they both looked at the same scans). Not only that, but my current vet told me that the way that they have been planning on doing surgery would have left her in life long pain and that she needed a very different much more complex surgery to properly fix it. That all being said I'm just appalled that I not only already wasted $500 on the royal oak animal hospital, but that I was ready to hand them $2000 cash for a surgery that wouldnt have worked properly. I'm furious at the lack of communication by the front desk people as well as by the vet who should have sat me down, explained pricing, and how the surgery would work. They will absolutely never get my business again. If you are looking for a GREAT competent vet who is not only compassionate but also sits down and gives a very detailed explanation of the surgery, as well as prints out pricing in a list form to show you exactly what you will be paying and why, then check out blue pearl veterinary clinic in southfield. They were able to get me in, evaluated, and set up for surgery in an hour. I really wish I could give zero stars for the review, but one star will have to suffice.

My family has been taking our cats there for years and years. We've had to even put our old cats down there and they were so compassionate and helpful. Dr. Jan is fantastic, she and another doctor (unfortunately I cannot remember her name) are very informative. My cat has a chronic issue and when they do tests they take the time to explain and go over the results with me. They give recommendations without pushing me to do something I'm not able to afford. The staff is so wonderful with my cats even when one had an accident in this crate. They cleaned him and everything! Multiple times I have called to speak with Dr. Jan and unless she isn't actually in the office that day, I always get a call back.

CARE should be their middle name. Everyone is very friendly, knowledgable. helpful and understanding. We adopted a 10 year old dog with problems we knew about in addition those we hadn't known about. We are still happy that we have him, even tho he has cost us thousands of dollars during the past 6 months. He is funny and full of personality and we love him and he loves us.. Royal Oak Animal Hospital treat Bernard and us as if we a member of their extended family. We are there so often with his health issues we should probably rent a room there. Wonderful, caring and considerate staff and doctors. Not one unpleasant experience
