On first impression I thought this vet was great, but when I saw all the mistakes they made that could possibly put my cat's health in serious risk I was hurt and angry. I went in for the treatment of his skin because of constant, aggressive scratching he was making his skin around hie eyes and ears bleed. I did not think it was fleas and they checked and confirmed it was not fleas but allergies and quickly prescribed cortisone pills and creams that apparently all cats are prescribed so it is very 'safe' as well as telling me I need to put him on their prescription diet and change his food. I didn't mind the food, but I question everything because I don't believe in pills myself but I trusted the vet to care about pets and know what she was doing. I also wanted information on vaccinations. In the 9 years I have had my little guy, he never has been vaccinated because I was worried from all the negative information surrounding vaccines for pets but I wondered if it might better protect him since I travel with him and he is exposed to other people's pets. WHAT THE VET SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME before sticking him with 2 vaccines, one being the FIV, was that he NEEDS TO BE TESTED FIRST, before injecting him with it, because if he is carrying the FIV and it is dormant, THE VACCINE WILL AWAKEN THE VIRUS AND MAKE HIM FATALLY SICK!! I noticed right away he was out of it and not himself, really lethargic, looking confused and disoriented, doing things out of character, and even vomiting gel-like substance and sneezing/wheezing a lot suddenly. I called the vet right away and they assured me it was fine that it was probably just the medication and it was 'normal'. Again, against my better judgment, I trusted them and continued giving him the medication. What sent me over the edge with all of it, was when 2 weeks later while still on the meds, he started scratching again really aggressively so I called again and they said I should just give him a double dose of the pills and prescribed me another bottle which I warily bought, but at this point, I was starting to question their veterinary knowledge because they were constantly dismissing my concerns for his worrisome reactions/character change since the medications. I couldn't tell whether it was the vaccines or the medication but the final straw for me was when after being advised to give him 2 pills, the very same day he jumped up from the bed and head first into my closed window, which has been closed all season long and he KNOWS this, it's as if the pills caused him a form of dementia and he forgot, or he was so out of it he didn't know what he was doing but he has NEVER done that, he knows the window is closed and even in warmer months when the window is open he has never jumped into it like that. I freaked out because he hit his head so hard I've been worried the last 5 days that he may have a concussion so I am constantly monitoring him. I immediately stopped giving him the meds and returned them to the vet, who refused to give me a refund for them, even after explaining the situation and what was happening to my cat! How quickly they wanted to wash their hands of me when the treatment they recommended him caused a severely negative reaction they kept reassuring me there was nothing to worry about but from second opinions I discovered they were giving me false information and putting my cat's life in danger! They don't seem to care and were giving me really judgmental looks amongst each other when I voiced my concern for him, especially when I asked them why they didn't advise me to have him blood-tested BEFORE just giving him vaccines to make sure his health was good otherwise the vaccines could make him really sick. They really either don't know what they are doing, don't care, or they are lying because they don't want to take responsibility for malpractice! My cat has been with me 9 years and never reacted like this prior to seeing the vet last month! He means the world to me and I am hurt and disgusted by this vet they don't care about animals and now I'm worried sick for him :(
