The people are always friendly and helpful. I've gotten some cats there and I've taken they're puppy training classes. It was all fantastic, everyone in Saskatoon should support this organization.

Jul 22, 2018
Puppy arrived July 12 we seen it and continued to visit since July 14 July 21. So I was hoping that maybe after this experience I could give anyone some advice about adopting but unfortunately I can't. I believe I did everything I could to adopt the puppy the family and I fell in love with and wanted to take home but unfortunately that didn't happen. Over the course of the week we have visited many times. I have made an application form with paragraphs on why she would be a good fit for our family. Listing close amenities and emphasising that we had ample space for her. Going in and making sure they got my updated application. I even asked the receptionist "what more could we do so we can adopt her" and got a blank stare. We have been givin multiple excuses and answers on why we couldn't adopt her yet. Ranging from "we haven't gotten enough applicants yet(1 employee said 7 and another said 5)" too "she is going for her medicals" They wouldn't even let me pay early so I could bring her home after her medicals were done. There's nothing more I could have done to convince them and im sorry SPCA but I can't go thru that and I won't allow my children to go thru that again. If im not fit to adopt an animal this time then I'll never be fit. I was told applicants are picked by the staff in a meeting. So im not sure how all that helps or works. I really wish I could say my forwardness and going their multiple times helped but it didn't. Many of the staff knew we were their to visit the one animal. They knew we were interested and we didn't get a call stating they picked someone else. No resources on helping adoptees achieve a thumbs up from the animal lottery. I don't even know if she was already adopted before hand and wasn't told about it as she was on the adoption floor before she was allowed to be adopted. Its sad to say but If you're going in for a pet don't get your hopes up at all. Nothing I did helped. ------------------------ I've reached out to a few people who have had negative experiences at the SPCA as my recent dealings with them are exactly identicle to theirs. The family and I went into the SPCA twice this week. The first day wasn't to bad we were greeted and helped in a normal fashion. But the second day was horrible. The receptionist wouldn't help us at all. I asked if a certain puppy had arrived and she blatantly said no very rudely. So I asked well could you look it up in your system. Again Very rudely said it's not here. So I look on the website and see that the dog I was wanting to meet was registered and in the building. So I completely gave up and just walked into the kennels. We had to ask 3 seperate occasions for help and was completely forgotten about. What seemed like an eternity we finally received help and was put in a room to interact with the dog we wanted to meet. After 15 minutes we were interrupted by an employee as if rushing us out. We ended up staying a little longer as the dog connected with the children and I. When the employee came back I asked about the adoption process hoping that I could pay for the dog and bring her home. She told me that I would have to wait until 7 applications have come in for them to pick a family. And that the dog needed to get fixed first which would be until next week sometime(didn't say specific day). Not even a mention of paying for her now and getting her when she has completed medical. I understand you don't want animals returning but how am I suppose to prove that I really want to adopt? Give my yearly income? Pictures of my other animals? Blood samples to prove im not an irresponsible adult? Honestly I thought this would be less of a hassle. I bet it would be walk in and out for a cat! To me this shelter is a discriminating lottery rather then an adoption center. Who are you to say im not as good a fit then the next person? Should I just go to a big box petstore walk in and walk out? And just not support you at all? In the end They were very pushy to get us out. Very rude. And not very helpful.

Good organization, but could be more organized. They should keep the cats that have been spoken for separate from the adoptable cats. We were disappointed after falling in love with a cat to find out someone had already adopted it.

Got a cat there took her home the very next day shes sick she is also just staying in a corner not wanting to be around me. I specifically asked before i took her that if we didnt get along how long i had to bring her back they said 30 days. Now there saying i can bring her back but it counts as surrendering her and that not only will i not get money back but i wont be able to get another cat. So in addition to being lied to i get ripped off sold a sick cat and now have to get one from a breeder.
