I went to Dr Leroy to sample a contact lens for astigmatism. I had my appointment in early December 2022. It is mid February 2023 and I got the call a week ago to make an appt. I went in today to try the lens. I was not happy with the lens and tried it out at the gym. It felt weird and was blurry. When I got to the dr 2 hours later I mentioned it was blurry and I didn’t like it. I said that I was using X brand and X prescription and I was very happy. I can finally see. And I tried astigmatism lenses. He said “that’s an old brand”. Then he told me this was a lower prescription than the one I’m wearing which I said I’ve been wearing for years. He said “well it didn’t seem to be doing anything for you anyways”. Then he forced me to read the charts when I said I cannot and it looks like hieroglyphics. He insisted I try and I told him I can’t. He kept telling me to try so I finally did. Then he told me to just keep trying the lens as today is day 1. I am not impressed. I just want my prescription so that I can get my contacts paid for by insurance but apparently that’s not happening any time soon. I felt demeaned, ignored, and stupid.

I don’t understand the poor reviews. This optometrist is EXCELLENT with school aged children. Very thorough exam. Very funny. Very patient. This town is lucky to have him. The front staff were excellent as well.

Doc is great with old and young, I recommend him! I'd have given a 5 for the doc, however, the reception is rude and disappointing. Took the prescription to Nu Vu Optical, they have awesome reception and service.

We moved to Grand Forks just last year (2021) and, as everyone knows, moving is hectic let alone when you have to find a new doctor, optometrist, dentist and even a hair dresser. You never know what to expect. But, honestly, Alan LeRoy was very friendly as was his receptionist. He was talkative and funny, but also honest and knowledgeable. And, I give his receptionist credit. I know from personal experience it's difficult to run a business alone. She too, was knowledgeable with a good sense of humour. Now we have an optometrist!
