I called them up to renew my prescription since its been a few years; I specifically told them I was going to get my glasses elsewhere, and was immediately informed that this was a bad idea (of course this us typical and I expected it, so I persevered). Once they realized that I was not going to purchase frames and lenses, the quality of service dropped a bit.
I made sure to ask if I could have my PD measured too since I had taken it the last time myself and wanted to have it professionally measured. They eventually told me they could but for a fee of 25 dollars. I agreed and they promised that they would put a note in my file to that effect.
When I arrived they had forgotten that I was not going to buy frames, and tried to have me look over their selection as I waited. I politely told them that I was going to be going to work and didn't want to shop then (since I wanted to have a good exam).
The optometrist was professional, but after my exam started telling me about how I should also get a retinograph taken for a fee of 25 additional dollars. He said that almost no one in the province has a retinograph machine and that it would be smart to take advantage. I didn't say I wanted one, but he wheeled me over to the machine anyway, and because I didn't want to be argumentative and have the quality of service tank I just let him take the pictures.
Afterwards they told me that I should bring in my old glasses so that they could be examined before my prescription be issued. I did about a week later and they couldn't find my file. Turns out that they had put my phone number into the file incorrectly. I had it changed then, let them take my glasses to the back for measurement, and then asked them if it would be possible for them to email me my prescription. They said that this was fine, and I went to work.
Two weeks later I had still not heard from them, so I called back. I asked if I could have my prescription, and they told me sure. when I asked if I could have it emailed again, the rep on the phone told me that this was impossible because I needed to sign for the papers.
Fine, whatever.
I walked passed it on my way to work to pick it up. When I got there they couldn't find my file.... They hadn't corrected the mistaken number.
I got my prescription, was about to walk out and then remember the PD. It wasn't listed so I went back to the counter and asked. They told me that they don't give that out. I told them that I was already told I could have it, and that it was supposed to have been noted on my file. They agreed, and told me that they could provide a PD measurement as an 'out of prescription/file service' for 30$. Never-mind that it was already supposed to have been paid for, and that it was already approved by the optometrist, and that it was suddenly 120% of the cost that they had initially quoted me and that NOW I wouldn't be able to combine the claim for my insurance company for reimbursement. I just left.
The ONLY reason that this place deserves the single star that they have is because they let me use their washroom and it was clean.
