My wife and I originally were booked to stay at the Compton House (Same ownership in an adjoining lot), but felt mislead by the room description. After a difficult week, we tried for an impromptu "get away" in the city. The room showed pictures of a large fireplace (which was the only feature my wife was interested in) and on the website was described as a "fireplace" room. Unfortunately the fireplace was not functional, along with all of the other rooms. They offered to transfer us to a room at the Leaside Manor that had a working fireplace, which we were very thankful for. After we had packed up all of our belongings and made our way over to the Leaside, we were shown two very dated rooms, with tiny plug in electric fireplaces. Nothing like what was in the room descriptions. It seems like a trivial thing to complain about, but when the only reason we booked there was for that one feature, it was very disappointing. At checkout, the employee who was working the main desk, didn't even look up from her computer to thank us for our business or ask us how our stay was. All in all, the experience was rather disappointing. And with so many (less expensive) options to overnight in the St. John's vicinity, we will trying another location next time for sure.

Great room with lots of character. Built in 1921. Friendly staff and delicious breakfast. We ate in the cozy dining room but they will deliver to your room at no extra charge.

Great service. Beautiful rooms and suites. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Affordable rates, and friendly staff. Highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a nice evening with their loved one.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful place. Parker room. Introduced as the honeymoon suite. Beautiful. But that squeeky bed! Unreal!

Quite disappointed with our stay here. The Signal Hill suite was very dated to say the least. It is located below the kitchen and next to the staff entrance, and the staff made no attempts to keep the noise down. Our fireplace was broken and the water glasses in our room were covered in lipstick from the previous guest. The bed is also very uncomfortable! The location is decent - but expect a 25 minute walk to get to Water Street. Food is good.
