Excellent castle experience in the USA. Other countries have us beat obviously, but despite that, this castle is marvelous. There are a multitude of boats there on both the US and Canadian sides, and a dock for you if you rent or have your own. Beautiful and expansive grounds that you can either wander or take a guided tour of, including forts and little houses and fountains and gardens and a pool. Fair warning, there is no a/c which won’t matter as long as you don’t show up on the hottest days of the year. If you don’t know the story of the island, you’ll learn why it is there as is, and it only enriches the experience. Also, great fireworks over it during the Fourth of July, which you can see from opposing shores.

Been there several times throughout the years. Most improved this time, gardens where outstanding! Great to get in Alister tower and walk docking area around it. Plan on about 3 hours to really see it all. Worth the $20 for ferry ride and admission to island. Great views. Wear good walking shoes! Easy walking but stairs involved, elevator available. Boat house is extra.

A wonderful restoration project of an American castle. Every year the project is further along with new rooms and decor, and grounds and fountains. Great views of the river. If you like American history this is a must see. Some amazing things on the island: the dining room with silver and china displayed, the stove in the kitchen, the playhouse, and power house. The grounds are wonderfully maintained, lots of flowers. Admission is reasonable. Pack a lunch. Docking easy.

Words cannot describe this experience. It is breathtaking! You must watch the movie in order to understand the location and its meaning. We recommend going there first and also doing the audio tour. We met several employees who loved to tell their own stories! Also, try to get there at the opening time. It gets crowded later.

I love how they are preserving a part of history! The little video they had was great. What was redone was beautiful, and I cannot wait to come back to see what more they have done. I liked seeing the graffiti, it was personally appealing to me. Also, it was beautiful to see the natural rock that made the castle, I would like to see a floor preserved in just the rock, not necessarily the "vision" of what it was supposed to be. I walked away with so many pictures, and a cute little magnet for my fridge.
