People need to get out and vote for some new councillors. I do not live in Sudbury and I have no stake in the decision, but a friend sent me the link to watch the live webcast of the city council decision on the new arena. I have a degree in urban planning and I have seen similar council meetings before. However I have never seen a more dysfunctional group of councillors, who clearly forgot their job is to serve their city, and not to be self serving and make the decision that they think will protect their job in an election, or from the peer pressure. I watched the full four hours, along with over 2200 other people online. I was shocked and embarrassed at the manner of the procedings. It was a free for all....the court clerk was well controlled, but had little ability to keep people on track. Clearly there was insufficient preparation by the councillors for this meeting to happen, and there should have been an agenda followed. It felt like I was watching people hear about this for the first time, and then force themselves to make a decision quickly with public money on a location that had a lot of unanswered questions.......then the Mayor gets embarrassed by asking for a bunch of conditions and getting it rejected.....not only that....he ends up voting for the Kingsway location because he doesn't want to lose face..... I wish the best for Sudbury.....I visit now and again...but please people of Sudbury....beware of who is spending your money....their capabilities are low from what I witnessed. Time for a fresh start, and start with a new Mayor who can lead council.
