We rented a cabin mid July at this state park. This is a lesser known place for cabins. Most people rent from the bigger Wellesley state park. We also checked out the wellesley state park cabin sites and found they are not as scenic as this little dewolf point state park. So we reserved cabins here. There are only 14 cabins, all next to water. The cabin we reserved is a little bit high up but has great water views. It also has a deck which is our favorite place for breakfasts. The cabin is kinda small but all cabins are about the same. If you spend more money you can rent a cottage at Wellesley state park but again the views are not that good. The only gripe we had the first day is there's no barbecue grill at our cabin. All other cabins have it. I brought this up to the park ranger but didn't expect anything to happen. Next day, a barbecue grill magically appeared right next to our deck. It turns out the park rangers painstakingly drag a heavy barbecue grill up this small hill and installed it on the top of a small tree which was cut down. Talking about customer service who can beat that? Kudos!
The bathroom facility is a little bit far away but kept rather clean. Most of the time you can find unoccupied bathrooms. We had the impression earlier that you need coins for the showers which turned out to be wrong. Showers are free, which is a big plus because during a very hot day you shower first then walk up the hill back to your cabin you will be sweating like a pig and want to go take a shower again. I've seen other cabin renter brought air conditioner with them and installed it on a window. It's probably a good idea if your cabin is not far from the parking spot. Our cabin is pretty far though. We bought a $15 fan from walmart(which is 30 minutes away at watertown) and it worked pretty well. You just need to keep the air circulated. During the night the temperature outside is pretty cool and all you need is a fan to draw the cool air in. Mosquitos are a big problem though, especially after sunset. We stayed out for the camp fire the first few nights and got numerous bumps. I once even found a puff of smoke which turned out to be a small cloud of mosquitos and other flying insects. Errh! So make sure you stay inside once the sun goes down. It's also a good idea to bring a fly swatter to kill whatever flying and crawling things you can find inside the cabin.
There's no TV so entertainment is rather limited at night. Luckily we knew this before we went and we bought a small projector and some DVDs to keep the kids from bored to death in the evenings. The beds are bunker beds which need sheets, quits and pillows. We brought some and bought some at walmart(again that walmart is pretty far away). Before you enter the island there's this bridge which charges $3 each time you cross it northbound. The nearest supermarket is pricechopper which is on the mainland side. There's also a small shop next to the gas station near 81 which has some stuff and that's about it. If you have a boat it will make things a lot easier and funner. There are tons of fish in the river/lake next to the cabins. My kids sometimes have fish biting the hook less than 3 seconds after they drop the bait in. That's how numerous the fishes are.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at this state park and many thanks to the park rangers. We will definitely go back! Let me quote Arnold Schwatzenegger: "I will be back!"
