I watched the play "next to normal." Personally loved the play great performance from all the actors, musicians, technicians and everyone involved in the play, great job! The play was very good and the acting was very good. Would definitely come back and watch more.

It so happened that I learned about Walterdale Theatre from a friend who told me they were happy to work with essentially everybody, including those who had no formal theatre education. As I have been involved with theatre most of my life, I was excited about the seeming opportunity - so I contacted Walterdale and asked what would it take to direct one of their shows? They told me to get in touch with their artistic director Bethany Hughes... Bethany replied to my email and seemed to be willing to meet in person - as I suggested because I had many questions. In the meantime she asked me to send in my resume, a short bio and even a picture - all of which I did. And then... First she asked me if I would agree to work as an Assistant Director to get to know the people. I said, of course - and once again asked when we could meet to discuss the details. From then on Bethany would disappear, reappear to ask an unrelated question or make an unrelated suggestion but never-ever to make any practical arrangements to meet - even though she never admitted she wouldn't want to. After 2 months of such back-and-forth she told me that Directors would soon be appointed for new season shows - and it would be up to them if they want any assistants. This time she didn't even mention any meeting option... Bethany could have met me - and maybe gain a supporter for the theatre. Or she could have told me right away that my qualification wouldn't be enough, or something like that. Instead she chose to mince words - which essentially amounted to lying to me about her intentions. Since I don't have any other contact at Walterdale, I might consider my hope to collaborate with them as good as gone. Not sure if anybody is the better for it but I am rather convinced that Bethany Hughes, by treating me in such a disrespectful and offhand way, has done the theatre a big disservice. Not because of me as such but rather because of a reputation she has earned for Walterdale :-( As an afterthought, many people seem to like the theatre - and I do hope, it's for a good reason. Maybe one day I'll go there myself to make sure but right now its name leaves nothing but bitterness in my mouth...
