The theater itself is a bit dated, some of the seats are crooked on their hinges. Screens are average size considering they have been in use for 15+ years. 3D works just fine. Surround sound is good. Concession serves beer so that's a plus. Definitely not a big city cinema.

We’ve seen dozens of movies at the Lux over the years. It’s a pleasant experience every time. From the creative decorating efforts celebrating the latest blockbuster to the constantly updated and creative “keep your cell phones off” video at the beginning of the show, you know you’re being treated to a movie by a team of true cinema buffs! It wouldn’t be a trip to Banff without staying for a movie at the Lux.

Quaint small town theatre. Screens aren't big-city Cineplex size, but still generous. Different special each day of the week. On Monday, all movies are 2D only, but we got admission, medium popcorn and medium drink for $20. Nice way to chill out for an evening.

Small theatre, old and traditional. It was fine, but had none of the new cinema perks that you just don't think of as perks anymore like seats with head rests, or the reclining feature. But good for a reminder of the advances in theatres!

The Lux may not be the biggest or fanciest theatre, but they really go all out for their special events. They decorate the lobby every couple of weeks for a new movie premier and they hold fun midnight launch parties with contests and prizes for dressing up. The selection at the confectionary stand has improved greatly and they now can sell alcohol at their shows. As well as showing Banff film festival shows, they also partner with local theatre groups to create uniquely local events you couldn't see anywhere else. The Lux has become quite the valuable community hub in Banff.
