If you are visiting Banff, the gondola tour is a must. The tour has the best views of the area. Period. 360 degrees of gorgeous mountain scenery. I recommend booking your ticket online ahead of time - early morning is less busy. Take the number 1 bus right from downtown Banff to avoid the hassle of parking. Most hotels offer free bus fare. For the full experience, upgrade to the breakfast buffet. It was the perfect way to relax after an early morning hike to the summit.

Touch the Sky The Banff Gondola at Sulphur Mountain is must see if you visit Banff as a far away or local visitor, especially for the first time. It offers spectacular views of the nearby mountain ranges and the town of Banff itself. Check weather conditions before you go. Facilities at both ends of the gondola are excellent. At the top is a nice modern building with two restaurants and a coffee shop. The gondola itself is in very good condition and each car seats 4 people. There are assigned times (which can be changed) to ride and return on the gondola which is great for managing valuable time and shorten actual waiting time in the queue. At the top of Sulphur Mountain is a pleasant wooden walkway and groomed gravel path along the ridge line to a nearby peak about 25 minutes’ walk away. It has many stairs that should not be difficult for most people and children. It is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. On my late afternoon weekday visit in July with light numbers of visitors, I spent about 3 hours at the Gondola with about 45 minutes at the Northern Lights restaurant at the top. The Banff Hot Springs is a 15 minute walk from the Gondola so these two attractions can be combined in the same visit.

VISUALLY STUNNING! Beautiful! The gondola itself is probably the best one without being over the top or too cheap. Very comfortable and very accommodating. We were late but we could still go. So accessible by transit and they were nice enough to have a shuttle too! The chalet/store atop the mountain was also very nice! Expensive but nice! The mountain ranges look like something on a Swiss chocolate wrapper.

The Banff Gondola at Sulphur mountain is absolutely beautiful. Beautiful overview of the mountain range. Take the trail off the center and walk the 3 mile to and from the Observation Tower. There are several places where you can get this view but this will provide you the easiest way to get to the view without having to hike up the mountain. Sit on the massive throne chair and be forewarned; there are plenty of travelers nearby. Visit sky bistro and stay until sunset for the truly breathtaking views.

Stunning views of Banff National Park and the surrounding areas. A must-see-and-do if you are ever in the area. Highly recommended! Excellent gift shops at both the top and the bottom, as well as food options. Fascinating exhibits an excellent short films make this an essential part of any trip to Banff.
