Where do I begin... I have to say I love this union, I love being in Film is this is possibly one of the best unions you can be apart of in This city. The Conditions and the pay are exceptionally well for film. the bad news is if you don't know anyone in the industry or your not a professional ass kisser (getting work instead through effort, attitude and gained skill) Expect to be sitting around waiting for work often. I swear people in unions who only know people in union and have experienced union take these jobs way for granted. Being able to keep work cause of WHO they know. Not knowing how hard their industries really can get. Hard advice- you don't REALLY know your industry until you've worked on non-union, independent or small time gigs/companies and jobs, where sometimes in the case of film they don't even get their PAY Never mind getting screwed on overtime hours. Talk about "paying your dues" And that's the hardcore truth, It's actually easier to be in the union and sad it has to be that way... it really screws the hard working people getting their foot in the door. Cause its not who you know, its who you blow. Its said that IATSE 891 is one of the last good unions to be apart of left in this city, This is certainly true if you get to know the right people, otherwise good luck getting in and staying in.

After being a newly recognized member of IATSE 891, in 2013, I was delighted to learn about the volumes of opportunities for training and education through our union. Having been in the business world for over 20 years, I can honestly say that there are very few business and unions that support their members so fairly and who truly care about the members in their "team." Not only are members given the time of their union leaders through phone calls, personal interaction and newsletters and email, but also through regular monthly department meetings where members are encouraged to participate with ideas and suggestions. I am glad and proud to be part of a union that really gives a darn about its members. For me, IATSE 891 is a refreshing and much appreciated way of doing business - Putting People First!
