This was an opera house built in 1902, as well as the town hall for some time, but is now a theatre used primarily by Drayton Entertainment. Do note that this is a very old building and that the stairs to get to seats are steep, with hand rails along both sides. There is also a small elevator that will accommodate a wheelchair. The theatre has a few spots where patrons in wheelchairs can view the event. This is a small venue with perhaps 150 seats (I did not count them). Yesterday, we attended the play The Birds and the Bees which has since moved to Drayton's theatre (Huron County Playhouse II) in Grand Bend, Ontario. The comedy play was very good. In our experience, this company especially excels in musical tributes to various eras; tickets are sold on their Web site (about $46). They also have two St. Jacobs locations. The village is cute and has a few restaurants, although we did not eat here. About 35 minutes from Guelph or Kitchener-Waterloo. Parking is easy to find... continue along Wellington St. to find a lot OR park on Spring St. which is along the side of the building. Since the theatre accommodates relatively few people, parking was certainly not a problem.

REALLY enjoyed Birds & Bees, and also the theatre venue itself. Super volunteers and I enjoyed being able to finish my beverage inside the theatre. These old theatres have the BEST acoustics.

Great historical venue. Difficult arrangement because the theatre is upstairs, however, they do have an elevator for accessibility. Very intimate theatre, for an all encompassing experience. You feel like you're a part of the show.
