I have seen two comedies at Shakespeare in High Park and thoroughly enjoyed them both. A Midsummer Night's Dream (2018) is hilarious, but be warned that they overdo the bawdy humour a bit and I personally don't think the content is appropriate for younger children. The comedic timing and the role doubling is very well done. Definitely get there early (6:00 or so) to get a decent seat and bring a picnic, blanket AND a cushion of some kind unless you want a very numb bottom by the middle of the show. Such a fun thing to do on a summer evening. Highly recommend it.

Having lived in the area for 5 years, this was one of those experience that we really wanted to try. We reserved a month in advance online at the Canadian stage website. $25 per ticket gets you reserved seats which are close to the stage in the center so you have the best view in the house. The seating is just cushions so bring a blanket. It's a bit crammed and you can't really stretch out your legs. Lots of people bring food and snacks, but they also sell some snacks there. We arrived around 7:10pm for an 8pm show. The entrance is right across from the high park restaurant. The performance itself was good, we watched Romeo and Juliet. This is a modern take on the play, but still in old English. Minimal costumes and decor. The actors did a really good job! Overall an interesting experience and we might do it again next summer when new plays come out.

Outstanding performing despite the late evening weather. Superb casting by the Canadian Stage Company. Romeo and Juliet have great chemistry. Play starts on an energetic note rather than a dictation. The acts are smooth bit vibrant emotions. It's in your face to feel as though you are a citizen of Verona. The venue is fairly small for any theatre with about 150 seats. So a free show usually draw a large crowd. Open air with very few seats, bring a towel or picnic blanket. For the cost of reservations, you get centre seats. However PWYC is still beneficial for this company. It is indeed a show worth more than a movie ticket. For the 2018 season, Romeo and Juliet with an urban soccer undertone refreshes Shakespeare's timeless romantic tragedy.

I went to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream on a hot summer night. The vibe was amazing, sitting in a homey little corner of the park with twilight settling in. Everything about the play was amazing, from the superb skills of the actors, to the director’s attention to every little detail, to the subtle and sometimes not so subtle humour in the play. There was lots of parking when we went so I would suggest driving there and bringing some fruits and snacks, like the group in front of us did. I hope this doesn’t get cancelled for lack of funding. Definitely an underrated gem and cute way to spend a summer night in the city, whether it’s with a date or with friends or with kids. 11/10 🔥

Great place to hang out during summer evenings. It starts filling up around 7, so come early to claim a spot. I recommend bringing a cushiony blanket, or a small cushion to sit on. By the end of the show, your back and bottom will thank you. I've seen a few plays over the years and the cast always delivers. It is fun to have a little picnic with friends just before. There is parking right nearby, otherwise it is about a 10-15 minute walk from the High Park subway station.
