The theaters here are so welcoming at TIFF. I saw two movies that day in different cinemas. The smaller one was especially comfortable. The sound was amazing and the view from the seats was impeccable. The larger cinema had more of an angle to the seating but equally great sound. We saw the quiet place. And let me tell you everyone in the theater was very quiet and respectful. No one kicking my seats no one talking loading and disrupting my enjoyment of the movies. If every experience at TIFF is like this then it is worth the extra price on the tickets.

Absolutely one of my favourite parts of this whole city. They play movies that you don't get to see anywhere else if you can't make it to Cannes, and the prices are reasonable. I love being a member. The lounge always has free snacks and coffee and tea. I like to go early to movies so that I can spend half hour beforehand there. I love that they play classics from directors like Kubrick because I get to see movies I didn't get to see on the big screen originally! I love how engaged they are with the community. They always have family friendly exhibits. I love when they have special events because the atmosphere is so welcoming. I also found some rare books that are super expensive on Amazon very decently priced in their store.

Outside of the annual TIFF festival, this unique theatre is a unique place to really enjoy classic films that have been remastered or re-struck from their original negatives (ex. 2001: A Space Odyssey) in all their big screen glory. Seats are comfy and far more spacious than your regular cinemas. Prices are fair and they have a student discount ($17 without, $14 with).

Apparently the membership fees aren't enough to keep it going because this is literally the only theatre in the world I've been to where they want to charge you for an empty cup for water. They'll give you a free one but it's cone shaped and won't sit in the drink holder. So, yeah, great place if you want to feel like you're 14 again and at the mall Orange Julius. Not recommended for catching a flick, tho.

Love this place, always an adventure as most movies we see at the Lightbox are ones we typically wouldn't bother seeing anywhere else. Also love that you can have a reasonably priced adult beverage without having to pay for the VIP theatre. Will always be looking forward to seeing the next independent film. Cheers!
