I would recommend the Bonnechere Caves since it is interesting and fun. It is about an hour and a half from Ottawa so if you want to do a day trip and explore the Upper Ottawa Valley, you should consider this activity. Our guide was most knowledgeable and it is hard to appreciate the evolution of a cave until you visited one (albeit this one is relatively small compared to others on the world). That said, the tour is just long enough to keep things interesting. There are steps and a gravel path so not too onerous, though would be difficult for those with mobility issues. While not expensive, if you are interested in going, look for discounts on the net.

Bonnechere Caves was a perfect stop for a hot day. We had two elderly women with us who navigated the caves just fine although cautiously at some points. Most areas weren’t too confined so not too bad if you don’t like small spaces. The guide was a great story teller so it was not just a boring walk through. Be sure to wear good shoes - I forgot and just wore flip flops but they had good slip-resistant soles.

My family and I enjoyed visiting the caves and having a picnic lunch here. The reason I'm dropping a star was the tour guide talked a lot stretching the tour out by quite a margin. This was a lot of talking for a 4 year old to wait through. The caves could be appreciated in less time. Maybe the owner should consider a more abbreviated tour for those with younger kids or pressed for time. Still enjoyed the experience though!

Great experience! The guided tour was ever better! Our guide was absolutely fabulous. Excellent for children with inquisitive minds as the story of how the caves were discovered is outstanding!

If you live in Ottawa, I highly recommend doing this! The tour guide was very knowledgeable about fossils, rock formation, the history of the caves and so on. A few good jokes here and there too. It doesn't make the list of the top 5 experiences in my life, but for the price of a movie ticket this is worth every penny.
