I have recently discovered that by New York State law, David Sharbani of Elite was supposed to give me a written contract which listed all materials, including manufacturers, cost of labor, and the time frame during which the job would be done. Not only did I not get a contract, but I never even got a written proposal. Other people I have spoken to said the same procedure was used with them. Note that he claims he works on the basis of "materials and time worked", but by law, that time worked has to be spelled out. First he claimed I signed a contract but was unable to produce it. He then later claimed I had refused to sign a contract. If that had been the case, he would have had to refuse the job according to the law. I note the spate of new reviews after I filed mine which are all glowingly positive, and a few of which state that Sharbani works on the basis of materials and time worked. I find that amusing, since who on earth puts that in a review??? He is also not licensed. I was also, by law, supposed to get a written two-year warranty on materials and labor. I do not have that either.
I also have several invoices from him with charges for Home Depot, none of which are itemized. They added up to over $10,000.00. When I asked him what the charges were for, he said things like "grout". That's pretty expensive grout.
I paid over $900.00 for a small Home Depot vanity, which according to Home Depot is probably double what the piece actually costs. I am waiting for the photos and a letter from Home Depot.
All in all, there is no question that I was overcharged for materials, and the number of hours of labor I was charged for is ludicrous. I also wrote out checks totaling over $11,000.00 to his father, Yeheskel, instead of to the business itself. I gather from other people he has had them do the same. This should not be the case with any business.
Disastrous experience. I will not make this lengthy since I have posted reviews in several places which go into extreme detail, since there were other jobs they did here which I am not addressing in this review- again, all negative. The only thing which came out relatively well was a new kitchen island to replace one they removed, but it was ultra-expensive- about $23,000.00. Suffice to say that they ordered the wrong kitchen countertops, insisted they were what I ordered and would not replace them without my paying for them a second time. That was the point at which I fired Mr, Sharbani and had to spend weeks without a kitchen until I found someone else to complete the work. They had already removed the old counters, sink, and cooktop and I had no water or ability to cook. They have refused to return my deposit on the countertops as well as money they owe me for a sink strainer and bottom grid, which I also paid for. They charged me for replacing a power strip on the kitchen island and it was not done. They expect me to pay the balances which would have been due had they finished the work; the balance of the countertops, the installation of the new counters, and the labor of hooking up the sink and plumbing, gas cooktop, and gas downdraft. I had also hired them to put down porcelain tile in my basement, 750 square feet of floor. I was charged for about nine hundred forty pieces of 9 X 35 inch tile when the store says I only needed about 356 pieces of tile. At roughly $50.00 a box of eight tiles each, I don't have to tell you how I was overcharged for that floor. I also discovered that he charged me more than double what the cost of those 940 tiles would be at any retail store which carries them. The cost should have been around $2300.00 and I paid just under $5000.00. I have two extra tiles in my basement in case I need to repair the floor. In addition, I was charged for 180 hours of labor to put those tiles down, at $70.00 hour labor, which means that about four tiles per hour were laid. My fault for not doing due diligence, but it should never have happened. Lesson learned. Need I say more???
