Letter 3 - Euro
This letter is in response to your letter to us dated March 6.
We are absolutely willing to work with you to make sure everything is to our satisfation. However, this can be best accomplished by us coming to your location to go over all the details. We would appreciate if you could let us know when will be a good time.
In the mean time, here are our suggestions of what needs to be done.
First of all, there were 3 areas of challenges to do the countertop installation. These were: Your cabinetry not straightened, small wall was curved and your sink cabinet were poor design. Your dry wall was removed and replaced while using the old 2”x4” framework. Therefore the wall is not straight. If we do not cut the drywall, your new countertop will not be straight. This is common practice in the countertop industry.
The solution to this is to install a backsplash. If you do not want to install a full height backsplash, we can install a 4” backsplash with the same material as your countertop. There will be an additional charge.
You mentioned that the overhang on one side is too small. This again is due to the same reason as above. Your cabinets and wall are not straight, causing the overhang on one side being less than the other side. This is again something we can easily show you. To rectify this your cabinets have to be straightened. You also mentioned your sink is tilting inwards. This is because of the cabinet design. An apron sink needs a special design vs. an undermount sink.Again, the best way forward is for us to come out to your location to go over these details.
Letter 4 - Me customer
Thank you for responding to my previous e-mail regarding my countertop installation issues. Your letter suggests that you are absolutely willing to work with me to make sure everything is to your (our) satisfaction and that is exactly what your letter indicates. At no time in your reply did you mentioned that you were the least bit responsible for the unprofessional installation or errors of the countertop. This was also noticed when you first brought the countertop that had a chip in it that you were aware of and about to install except I brought to your attention that I did not order a countertop that had a double edge. Fortunately I seen the chip.
It is with this knowledge that I can no longer do business with Euro Kitchen Bath & Countertop Gallery.
I feel insulted and quite frankly appalled that you would suggest all 3 of my concerns are because of: (a) the wall not being straight,
(b) poor design of the sink support and (c) the cabinetry not being straight.
Perhaps you did not see the pictures of the cut out wall. The first piece of countertop which is the first 26” clearly show that the countertop is not recessed into the wall as I would have expected if it was not straight. As a matter of fact, the piece of drywall that was cut out, does not even touch the countertop! I was in the living room the entire time the installation was being done and if the installer had an issue he should have consulted the homeowner, don't you think?
Prior to the countertop arriving, that apron sink was sitting square, level front, back, and side to side, in the area in which it was to be situated, for your information. The fact of the matter is the countertop is too tight at the front of the sink! I would suggest this is because you did not grind it out enough and I also think that piece beside the sink is not straight.
This sink has always been in my design and when you came to measure you were quite aware of this.
Lastly, the lack of overhang on the peninsula I would suggest is attributed to measurements, not because, as you would suggest, the cabinetry is not straight. Three sections of the countertop is 26" wide and the peninsula is only 24" wide. Once again, the installer should have consulted me prior to adhering the countertop in place, to see if everything was acceptable. A cheque for the full amount of my refund at the same time you remove the countertop is appreciated.
