First, how cool of a store name is this? "Department of Interiors" is witty and catchy - just like the displays; in fact, stepping inside is like exploring the Vatican museum vaults - rolls and rolls of fabrics, in all sorts of colours - and, unlike most fabric stores, Department of Interiors has them set up horizontally AND vertically. So it's a lot of fun to browse, which makes the experience quite unforgettable. More, Susan - the lady helping me out - wrapped the armchair in a couple of fabrics, to show me what mine would look like. Very helpful - and pleasant. All in all, I walked away with a terrific anthracite grey velvet and super happy to have visited. Will be sure to return for more.

The owner Robert was very attentive and helpful. He knew what to recommend me and gave honest opinions on the kind of fabric that would be best for what I'm looking for. They have a good selection of clearance fabrics too, which is very helpful if you're working on a budget. He also offered me some fabric samples to take home. I haven't purchased from the store yet but will definitely go back once I make a decision.

What a fun place to shop! Robert is very friendly and works hard at finding you fabrics that are exactly right for your purpose, budget and style. He made sure to point out similar fabrics on sale and did not try to upsell, making it a fun and relaxing experience. He has a great sense of style and seemed very happy to spend as much time as needed with me. I would DEFINITELY recommend this shop for beautiful and high quality fabrics. (Neighbour Matt from Decorum stopped by DoI and seems fabulous as well - will have to stop in there some time too!)
