A friend of mine recommended this Rona. He said the staff here had been friendly and helpful. My recent experience confirms the friendly part, but helpfulness is sorely lacking. The one star is for the the friendliness of the staff.
We went in to purchase a dishwasher on Sep 15. Rona had a 20% discount promotion at the time and they carried a certain Maytag model with excellent review that we like. We saw the machine in stainless steel finish on display in the store and it was already marked 20% off. My wife really liked the stainless steel finish. Unfortunately that floor model was the only stainless steel version Rona had. They had a couple more same model Maytag dishwashers in white finish in the warehouse. Both stainless steel and white versions had the same price. I asked if the 20% promotion discount could be applied on top of the floor model's already marked down price. Pete, the gentleman who was helping us, told us no. So the openbox stainless steel machine and brand new white machine would cost us the same amount of money. Naturally we decided to purchase the brand new white machine.
So, 6 days later, the white Maytag was shipped to Rona and we went in the store again to pick it up. (Store pick up saves shipping fee and we are on a budget.) That's when we saw the floor model stainless steel Maytag being marked 50% off. We asked Roman, the staff who was helping us, if we could cancel the order for the white Maytag and purchase the floor model stainless steel Maytag instead. Roman asked us to come back the next day when Pete would be in the store. He told us he had to ask Pete as Pete was superior and was like the head of the appliance department. I was like "Arrrgh! If Pete were the head of the department, wouldn't he have the authority to give us that extra 20% discount 6 days ago, and wouldn't he know further discount (50%!) was in the plan!?" A friend of mine bought their washer and dryer at Home Depot, the staff actually let them know an upcoming sales event, and they saved substantial amount of money! That is customer service!
We went back to Rona the next day. Pete was there. Before Pete could respond to our greetings, Roman came up and took over. He told us if we wanted to cancel the order of the white Maytag, we would have to pay a 25% restocking fee. We were standing right inside Rona with the 2 Maytag machines stood side by side, the white Maytag was still in a box unopened, and a "restocking fee" had to apply. See the bureaucratic absurdity!? Or worse, an excuse not to help customers?! And that steep 25%! Now, common restocking fee is 15%. Google it or ask Home Depot. I don't know how Rona would ever come up with 25%. Maybe they are just not efficient enough and have to transfer the cost onto their customers? With the steep restocking fee, there would be no saving for us to switch to the floor model Maytag. So we still took the white Maytag home.
With this experience, I'd have to say I won't be buying appliances from Rona again.
