I went to return a duplicate gift from my wedding and forgot the receipt at home. The cashier happily declined my request to exchange it for the value to go towards an air purifier. I have a 4 month old and the smoke has been causing issues with her. I asked the cashier to please try to exchange it for me because I had exchanged items before without a receipt and I was immediately putting it towards another purchase. She said no. I really needed the air purifier so I purchased it out of pocket thinking that the refund would come later when we returned with receipt. My husband later returned with the gift receipt to get a refund but the cashier said she would only give him store credit that would expire in one year. Really Canadian Tire? One year store credit even though we have a receipt in hand? Very poor customer service, and your return policy needs review. Cantankerous cashiers are given too much power.

If you know what it is you want, have done your research ahead of time and therefore need no help from the floor staff other than to perhaps ask where the item you want is, you will be fine. Good luck otherwise, because the people who work here now know less about what they sell than do those who work at Walmart. Canadian Tire now seems to hire the least expensive, inexperienced people they can get and does not bother training them as was once the policy.

I left the customer service counter only to find the exit blocked at the self checkout area. No signage directing you where to go next. I then approached what I thought were exit doors by the auto service area to find they were locked. I asked the lady at the register located right next to that exit if she could let me out and she rudely replied "No..you have to go back that way"..Well, where? I headed back towards the labyrinth/maze blocked by a number of waiting customers only to find hers was the only lane/exit operating at that time. As I passed by to finally exit the store I said to her.."Well that was easier how"?! I think this is a blatent safety issue; if there was an emergency situation and a sudden evacuation of the store was needed, this would turn out very ugly. Canadian Tire remove these barrier walls and stop treating customers like cattle!

Last summer I purchased six OFF! Mosquito lanterns from my local Canadian Tire. SC Johnson decided to discontinue this product this spring. After writing to the company, I received six complimentary coupons for the new style lantern. So, I happened to be closest to the Chilliwack Canadian Tire and I took the opportunity to redeem my coupons. I was flabbergasted when I was told I could only redeem one coupon at a time and would have to go back around in line for each one. I asked the cashier to call a manager who came and said she would redeem three but not all six even though they all had my name printed on them. In fairness the coupon did state one redemption per customer. I would have been fine with six individual transactions but clearly there is discretion if the manager can redeem three. I thought it was ridiculous to make me go back in line each time. So I left my entire purchase behind. I will never shop at this CT again. BTW I went to the North Vancouver CT and customer service was phenomenal. They just ran me through six times... they got the sale and I got my replacement lanterns in a few minutes.
