So I’ve been shopping at this Canadian tire for several years. Upon entry I was stopped at customer service stating that I could not use my “backpack” purse in the store. I asked to speak to the store manager. While waiting for the manager, several other woman in the store showed me how their purses were much larger than mine and none of them were treated this way! Anyway the manager explains to me that this has been imposed for years due to high volumes of theft and was not in anyway discrimination. I explained that this was my wallet and where I keep my epipens. I said they can search my purse if they think I’m a criminal as I have nothing to hide! He said that this was not necessary and agreed that I could have it in the store but my purse had to be inside a shopping cart. I don’t know how this is any different than wearing on my back! Anyway I felt very insulted as a regular customer of this store. I strongly feel that their handling of “backpack” purses be strongly reviewed! When was the last time their policy had been written or modified? It certainly would avoid embarrassment to the store and customers feeling discriminated.
