Very knowledgeable but there prices are higher than the big box stores. I will say if your not making big purchases it may not be worth driving to a big box store anyway. There lumber varys like any other lumber yard but tends to be better than most other places. (Look at the number of rings in a 2x4 as more typically is more dense) Some items in there store seam to be a better quality also but as the push for lower prices continues so does the quality on products all places carry.

I dunno, maybe it's me. I needed some screws for a table that I was building. I went into Ace with a screw that I was already using. Not knowing much about different types of screws I went into Ace, asked the nice man behind the counter to help me match the screw. He took the screw and seemed to know immediately what kind it was. After a little comparisons and matching the screws up to what I had brought in, he sold me a bunch of screws. Again, I know very little when it comes to hardware, but I thought Ace was the place. To make a long story short the screws he "matched up" wheren't the same screws. It was only a couple of bucks, but I was pissed. The money wasn't really the point, it was he sold me the wrong screws. I gave them 3 stars because everyone was nice, even if they did get my screws wrong.

The store is organized well. It's local. The selection is great, and the store's workers are friendly. There is an old penny gumball machine there. When I last visited I bought rakes for lawn care.
