Julie Carter is a great trainer. She is very knowledgable about sheep herding principles and gives clear instructions and terrific hands-on training. She estimates your dog's strengths and weaknesses very quickly and works with you to bring out your dog's strengths. Her approach is to help give your dog more confidence and to encourage greater success. She has great timing and always makes sure you end the training on a high note.

I went to Julie for help with my rescue who I had not had for very long. In the course of an hour, she repeatedly wrapped the leash around his belly and jerked it as hard as she could every time he pulled. If he put the leash in his mouth (the METAL leash), she would jerk it downwards, to the point where his mouth started bleeding. This was a rescue on his fourth home who was in a highly distressed state, and she used tactics that were meant to dominate and scare him. If this is your style, go see her. I saw her once, found a new trainer, and used positive reinforcement techniques to help my dog understand how to play appropriately with humans, which had nearly immediate positive effects. She also stated that my purebred lab "definitely had pit bull in him" and "would need to be put down because of his aggression" (he simply didn't have appropriate play boundaries with humans). As a new dog owner who was relying on her as an expert in her field, it was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I'm so thankful that I never went back to her.
