The Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge is a wonderful thing. It's a charity so your entrance fee and any donation goes entirely to caring for the donkeys. Like any animal shelter the donkeys are taken in for a variety of reasons, neglect, abuse, illness, owners can no longer care for them, etc. The people that work here are wonderful and caring and will tell you about the history of donkeys in the region as well as the history of each of the donkeys in the refuge. The donkeys are fun to watch and the constant braying is heart warming, they seem happy here. They also appreciate the attention they get from visitors. It is a little ways off the main highway on a dirt road an easy drive even in a regular car, well worth the detour. If you don't need to stop in Chase, when you leave the refuge you can keep going on the dirt road and rejoin the highway on the other side of Chase.

What a wonderful sanctuary for these wonderful creatures!! We had an amazing time visiting the donkeys, and visiting with the owners, Shirley and Rob. They were informative and seeing the great care they take to make sure all the donkeys and mules melted my animal loving heart. Thankful for them and the Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge!

What an amazing place! They are doing such great work here. Helping donkeys by giving them a beautiful place to live out their years with lots of friends and love. Plus you can pet donkeys! The best.
