Stopped by the thrift shop/adoption center and was quickly worried. Every building on the property seems to be stuffed with clutter that spills out into the yards. The thrift shop itself reeked of urine and feces and was very tightly cluttered and filthy. There was dust and cat urine on everything with tiny pathways. Where are the cats even kept?! The smell was overwhelming and we weren't even greeted by staff who were at the back. We saw some kittens and were given the cold shoulder when asking about then. Kittens had horrible fur were thin and had crusted eyes, all this obvious from about 5 feet away since they never let us back to see them. Staff were rude and abrasive, and one staff member had a dog that was in very poor shape. Dog was matted with overgrown toenails. They can't even take care of their own pets they shouldn't run a rescue! Was told one kitten was "around here somewhere amongst the clutter, very shocking! Kittens were very small and they couldn't even tell us their age, but they were roaming free in the mess of a store. We left quickly, cause it was hard to breathe from the ammonia smell. I feel so bad for the poor animals... PLEASE don't go here. They deserve to close down and the animals sent somewhere better.

So this is important for some people to read, i recently adopted a kitten (8 months old) from pet smarts adoption day, she seemed perfectly fine up until i came back to petsmart to pick her up and in the room she began retching/coughing. i then called pet smart 12 hours later and told them what was going on as my kitty Layla had still been coughing and dry heaving and they forwarded me to a lady named MJ (a lady from ARK, very helpful btw). I called her and told her my issues and she invited me to her house to get some medication for Layla. I brought Layla there and she was recently spayed so MJ had told me it's probably just from the tubes being in her throat so the medication was unneeded. I waited a couple days, Layla was spayed 3 days prior to me picking her up from petsmart so i did not think it was normal for this to continue. I brought Layla to the vet today, she actually needed medication (antibiotics) for the next 3 days she is to take a codeine syrup as well (every 12 hours). The vet told me if her cough and retching doesn't clear up within the next 3 days to bring her in again so i really hope it does as i love this new kitten of mine very much!! I'm not sure if ARK did the spaying of my kitty but i do know that a lot of people are saying the same things from experience of adopting from ARK, their cats are sick, have passed away due to diseases or even have diseases, i have also heard lots have upper respitory infections as well. Moral of the story, if you want to adopt from here, always get the cat looked at by a vet right away! always do research, if i had of done research i would have taken Layla to the vet way sooner than today. The idea of ARK is great but by the sounds of the reviews the place needs to be cleaned because a lot of these poor cats are getting sick! hope this helped anyone who's trying to adopt from here!!

I feel very strongly that I share my experience First I take full ownership for my decision to have my kittens 1st shots at ARK - it is my first pet in a very long time and from the get go did not do ... follow the steps I wished I had ie: read the reviews (mainly) and gone with my gut instinct after 2 phone calls for information (cost, location & hours) were both met with to put it bluntly rude & abrasive staff. My situation is such that because I'm on a limited income it seemed like the right choice. I arrived and directed to the back of what apparently doubles as a thrift shop. I was not greeted, period. When my turn came I mentioned that I wasn't certain how my kitten would react as he was very scared and doesn't like being picked up ...I asked why they didn't wear gloves (I genuinely didn't want him to hurt them) I was told.... quite rudely "if we need to wear gloves you need to take him to a Vet)... I immediately, silently questioned their qualifications. My main reason for this review besides the above is that my kitten was severely ill for the following 6 days - I get the initial say 48 hr lethargy, lack of appetite but this was extreme He wasn't drinking any water or eating. I was terrified (it's amazing how quickly you can fall in love) by the 7th day he started to come around and seems to be back to himself now. Of course this may have had nothing to do with the vaccination but it's onset was immediately following our visit and after reading a number of very poor reviews I'm left seriously questioning. Needless to say despite the affordability I would never return. If this helps one person not go through the traumatic sleepless nights I did, then by writing this I've done the right thing

Terrible. Broke my son and my wife's heart. Adopted dusty, he had a rattle. It got a little worse so we inquired to ark, they were not helpful at all and said it should be okay. Next morning he couldn't walk..... This was all within 1 week.. We took him to the vets and they said he was very ill, should have been addressed long ago.. long story short he's in cat heaven... I'd take the one star away but I couldn't post without it...
