I learned an enormous amount from Heather and Russ over the course of 3.5 yrs - their focus is largely on training the handler (me) to learn to train/commuicate with their dog. My dog Zoey also boarded with Ruffsport whenever I travelled for work and she always came home happy, healthy and alert. She loves RuffSport and I highly recommend RuffSport.

My crazy little dog... Few months ago I got my first dog Romeo, it was love at first lick. He was the perfect dog except I was doing all the wrong things. Watching training videos online and listening to just about anyone on how to train him. Before I knew it, I had created a little monster. He was unhappy, depressed, anxious and scared of pretty much everyone and anything. After 2 bite incidents and a 10 day quarantine, I was convinced Romeo was crazy. I took him to his vet asking if there was something wrong with my dog. The vet recommended I get him assessed by Heather at Ruff Sport. At first I was very hesitant, was this going to be a waste of money like all the other training classes I had taken Romeo to? For about a month Heather and I texted back and furth. I would send her videos of what I thought at that time was odd behaviours. I was finally convinced to take Romeo for an assessment. Soon as I drove into the ruff sport house I was immediately impressed and felt at ease. It was doggie heaven! Heather made me feel so comfortable and assured me Romeo is a normal dog, just needed the right training. After 2 months in her board and train program Romeo has transformed into a different dog. He was no longer “crazy” but crazy fun, crazy sweet and crazy smart. He is now loving life! Not only did Heather train Romeo, she worked with me and my family to ensure we understand romeo and how to be a dog owner. Now Romeo has a second home. Heather thank you so much for working with Romeo. You are an outstanding trainer and an even better human being. Romeo and I look forward to working with Heather throughout Romeo’s life. I highly recommend anyone reading this to check out her facility or attend one of her classes. I assure you, you won’t be disappointed.

Heather and Russ are absolutely wonderful. We have a service dog and needed help from a new trainer to continue his progress. We also wanted positive reinforcement training for our service dog. They responded immediately to our request for help. And when my husband became ill, they took on our dog for board and train and we were very impressed with the results when we were able to reunite them. They are knowledgeable about the legislation around service animals and are wonderful handlers and trainers. We continue to train weekly with them.

This company is clearly out to get people's money and that is shown by the various training programs they offer. The first being a board and train. I would caution any pet owner to go this route with ANY training school. It may seem like a nice idea to drop your dog off and pick it up completely trained, but in the real world that does not work. Take service dogs as an example, even though they are fully trained prior to meeting their disabled handler, the handler is still required to live with the training school for 2-3 weeks to be "trained" themselves. Companies that claim to train your dog, run. You are the one that needs to be trained, otherwise all of the work put into your dog will be a waste. Secondly this school offers a service and therapy dog class. My first issue is that they offer a therapy dog class. As an evaluator for Canada's leading therapy dog company, I can tell you that all we look for is overall friendliness as well as basic obedience just so the dog does not injure someone when excited. We certify volunteers for free while Ruffsport is charging people to "train" their therapy dogs. It's outrageous. Lastly, they group their service and therapy dogs together often mixing up the legislation surrounding different types of working dogs. If you are going to claim to be a service dog trainer, you should know the law.

It would be difficult to find a better place to have your dog trained. Knowledgeable and caring is key aspects to Ruffsport. Heather is the most amazing trainer I have ever seen. She cares about the dogs so much and you can tell they love being there. Our little guy has progressed so much it is unbelievable, and when we arrive, he can't wait to see her. We attend the classes and have learned so much about training. You will not be disappointed bringing your 4 legged friend here !!
