I am honestly so let down and disgusted by One of a Kind Pet Rescue. I was contacted via email this past weekend stating that my dogs micro chip had been scanned and my dog was located. This email came from the microchip company but was initiated by an employee of One of a Kind Pet Rescue. Let me add this VERY VERY important detail, my dog had been missing for 6 years. So you can imagine me getting this email I was elated, I called the number listed for the “finder” and they told me my dog was not at their location that they told the person who was trying to surrender my dog that they couldn’t take her, that she would have to be taken to the pound. I am not arguing that if that’s the protocol fine I get it. One of a Kind Pet Rescue scanned my dog and found that she had a micro chip (thus the email I got) the problem was they sent the person away with my dog with instructions to take my dog to the pound and they didn’t get a name or phone number. Nothing at all. This specific employee was very sympathetic and sorry (that is the ONLY REASON why I gave 2 stars) he even told me when I called back the next day that he didn’t sleep at all because of how bad he felt. I told him I appreciate that and that I was going to be driving to Ohio, from my home in Indiana, where my dog went missing from (no idea how she got 5.5 hours away) but he assured me that he was confident that the woman who was surrending her would have taken her to the pound. He also said he would be off on Monday and would take my cell phone # home with him so he could call me on Monday and see how things went. I thought this was kind. I started worrying because based on the time I got the email and the time that I saw the pound closed on that same day I knew chances were they were closed if she did take her there. Then they were closed the following day (Sunday). So I woke up at 5 am Monday and hit the road for Akron, Ohio so I could bring my baby home after 6 years. I called the pound as soon as they opened and they said they didn’t have my dog but I was welcome to come and check every cage and look just In case, of course the wind was out of my sails wit that blow but of course that is what I wanted to do. In the meantime when I hadn’t heard from the employee of One of a Kind Pet Rescue so I called there and asked if I they could get a message to him (it was his day off) and she said yes I’ll text him. I mentioned the situation and she said she was aware and that “it happens all the time” and that “it would be impossible for them to take the name and number of every person who brought and animal in” she said “we would have piles and piles of notebooks” I said, “ even when you scan it and a micro chip is there” she then back tracked and was very rude and said she would have him call me. Still no, I’m so sorry this happened to you, we feel terrible, nothing. When I arrived at the pound I was informed that the male employee from One of a Kind Pet Rescue has just been there to see if my dog was there and he didn’t see her. Again he hadn’t called me but I thought well he must be genuinely concerned because he went there on his day off and looked. I still hoped he would call because he was the last person to see my dog and any info I might get would need to come from him. After my search at the pound and finding nothing I went to every other place that she might be. Shelters, vets rescues everywhere. I felt so defeated so I called back to One of a Ki d Pest Rescue and got the same rude employee from earlier that now informed me that she wasn’t going to bother her coworker on his day of when he wasn’t on the clock. I told her I felt like she was Trying not to help me and that she was not very nice she said why would I try to not help you? After a few more seconds she said hold on and another woman took the phone and said hello I am taking the call and laughed. I responded with, I don’t find any of this humorous” she said I wasn’t laughing at you I could just tell my coworker was getting frustrated so I’m taking the call, in the Executive Director. ...

The place to go if you want to adopt a dog. The dogs have good temperaments. (I believe they are fostered if needed prior to being put up for adoption.) I adopted two wonderful loving dogs from here. Highly recommend.

One of A Kind Pets is amazing! They let us come in and hang out in dedicated kitty visitation rooms to get a handle on an animal's personality before we made any decisions. They're very knowledgeable and passionate about animals and making sure that a pet gets placed with the right people.

We adopted a cat a week ago (who was completely separated from the other cats at the time, which may be an important detail) who we were told with great certainty was completely healthy. Ever since we brought her home, she has been vomiting and not eating. We have another cat, so we thought it was just the stress of introducing them, but now our other cat is vomiting as well. Called them, and of course they claim no responsibility. We have talked to other people who have had a similar experience with One of a Kind Pets. Ensuring that an animal is entirely healthy, just to take them home and find out something they were hiding. $300 later, and we are still having tests done to see what is wrong with our precious babies, and will One of a Kind offer to reimburse us for this? Of course not. If you value the health and well being of your pets, I highly recommend NOT adopting from this shelter, or if you do, be very VERY persistent on getting ALL the facts. I'm starting to really question their ethics.

I love going here with my kids. It's relaxing to go to a cat room and petting all of them. The only thing I have a problem with is that when you buy an animal here not only is it high prices but you have to buy food, collar, leash and all that at your store (which is more expensive) obviously if you're getting an animal you're going to buy that or already have that stuff so why do I have to buy it from you?? Because that's an extra $100 right there. I don't like that at all.
