Over my 20 years in the industry, the name above the door has changed more times than the course material relevant to me. Regardless of the stagnant course material we are required to renew nearly every required certificate on a 3 or 5 year basis. Any course material that has changed has lowered the requirements for successful completion, thus lowering basic competency standards industry wide. This is a fitting change however, as the standards for the instructors they use has taken a dive as well. Up until recently the school was staffed with experienced management from within the industry. This is no longer the case. It's now managed by transplants from the public education system who have brought their bureaucratic, authoritarian management style with them. Gone is the hands on style of instruction, the rigs were unceremoniously hauled out in favor of desk chairs and bullet point lessons. The employee that was supposed to remind them that most oilfield workers do poorly in classroom settings must've been on vacation. Because of that baffling error in judgement, most classes look more like a hypnotist's show than a learning institution. Over the past 5 years the most valuable thing I've learned from attending classes here is a clever way to flip my eyelid skin for a more convincing appearance of consciousness. Sell the building and just put it all online already.

I have been working in the oilfield for many years, I have worked around the highest H2S ever produced and I am a H2S Alive instructor. So, I have gone through several revisions of the H2S Alive program and met several coordinators from PITS, Enform & ESC. It is sad that I have to voice this review through my friends account, because ESC made it very clear we can not criticize them without suffering serious consequences. I would like to point out several errors in the newest H2S Alive (18.1) program, it should be noted that there are too many to list here. 1. ESC claims they have “…deep oil and gas expertise…” how is this possible when most of the coordinators have never worked a day in the oilfield. They really need coordinate with those who actively are working in the field. 2. The SDS Section 4 Inhalation; “…. immediately begin artificial respiration.” This shows they are not only out of touch with the oil and gas industry but out of touch with the current protocols for First Aid in Canada. Artificial respiration is no longer taught to standard first aiders anymore. Protocol is “No signs of life, begin CPR” and this is what is should say in our books. 3. Donning SCBA, in the instructor guide, “Preferred method in class is the jacket style.” so the students do not hurt themselves. It must be hard sitting behind a computer all day everyday and not know what it is like to have some upper body strength. If you don a SCBA the jacket method and have no control you can just as easily hurt yourself, others and or the equipment. Students should be encouraged to don a SCBA according to manufacturer instructions which includes either method. Students should be allowed to use the method that they are most comfortably using. (Please note either method can cause injuries if not done with control). 4. The LEL sensor in the Bump Test video is not working. This is the only sensor that must be legally Bump Tested. If Instructors are caught using equipment that was not functional, they would be suspended, but ESC uses a video with non functional equipment. 5. Step 6 First Aid …” unzip the coveralls to remove trapped gas.” If this is true, then as a rescuer I am not able to rescue the casualty and begin first aid without ensuring that I do not have trapped gas in my coveralls. So therefore, we should be teaching rescuers to unzip their coveralls first before removing protective gear to begin resuscitation of casualty. I personally have worked in some of the highest concentrations in Western Canada, and internationally. I have never suffered ill effects by removing my mask in a safe area and not unzipping coveralls to remove trapped gas. This information is provided as some points that need to be corrected in the current H2S Alive program to ensure students are getting the most current, correct and relevant information to ensure their safety. I believe that is in all of our best interest. It would seem that ESC is more interested in finding who I am, so they can suspend me most likely. ESC does not seem interested in correcting the errors is their error filled H2S course, thus making it the worst/dangerous H2S course in the industry. So sad :(

You can tell these guys at this outfit have no clue. I have been in the oil industry for over 20 years. The garbage in the new H2S Alive course is so sad. The videos are sad, the miss information throughout the book just proves they do not know, because they have never been in the field and “thing” for the drags in not like a real person. Since PITS it has turned into a money grab monopoly.......just grabage
