This is one corrupt organization and profession. They refuse to use computers to make themselves more efficient in saving lives and saving costs. Lets face it, when it comes to straight memorization, computers have higher capacity and way way faster. Every profession uses computers to make themselves more efficient, for example, accountants, engineers, scientists, etc. Without computers helping doctors prescribe, doctors are more likely to make errors in diagnosis, diagnosing patients based on symptoms instead of based on the root cause of diseases, prescribing drugs that interact with each other, etc. When doctors prescribe drugs that interact with each other, which happens very often, the pharmacists (or high school grads) use computers to detect drug interactions, but they do NOT have the time to call you doctors every five minutes to ask you to change the prescription, instead those drug interactions are overridden, and the medications are dispensed as it is. As a result, patients suffer from organ damage. If pharmacists (or high school grads) can use computers to help them to be more accurate and more efficient, then why can't you doctors do the same for public safety? Times are changing. New technologies are available on a yearly basis. Every profession uses technology to make themselves more efficient and cost effective. Why can't you doctors do the same to help your patients?
