Wonderful site and Fabulous Guide, Donna Jean, shared the Wilder's history and farm life. Truly worth the trip from western Michigan. Imagine the family, doing chores, sharing a meal, gathered under the 200 year old tree. Be certain to see the Trout River Almanzo fished as a youngster.

Amazing fulfillment of a childhood dream! Jim was the BEST tour guide with a true passion for all things Laura related. The authenticity and informativeness was not to be matched by most history museums. Well worth the trip to this out of the way place.

This is a great place to start a journey through the life and works of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Even though she never lived there she based the stories she heard from Alonzo Wilder to write "Farm Boy." Each building has been beautifully restored and the house is mostly original and filled with actual artifacts from the Wilder Family. Well worth the visit, but be sure to plan for at least a 2 hour visit, prehaps even more. It is out of the way but make the drive and enjoy the site that inspired the book "Farm Boy."

They have done a MARVELOUS job restoring and maintaining the site. The farmhouse is original, and furnished with period appropriate antiques and decor. The Barns and outbuildings are on the original foundations, and built with period details, including stock barns, machine shed, threshing barn, working (!) pump house and chicken house. (the The only one missing is the ice house, which may be re-built in future. They added a one-rooms school house (which was not there historically) to show what that was like. Original Maple trees (from the Wilder's time) are along the road. In the loom room are some original textiles. In the gift shop/museum are actual relics and artifacts. But wait! There's more...follow the path down to the Trout river and see Almanzo's fishing spot, and the general location of the ice pond, and sheep pens. If you go to town (Malone) you can see the still existing (although presumably enlarged and more built up) County fairgrounds and other sites around town. Overall, this place is everything you could expect, and more. Well worth the effort to get there.
