Our infamous pile of chromed steel balls. A plaque on the stairway railing that runs alongside it says the artist was inspired by natural formations along the nearby North Saskatchewan River known as taluses. In fact this sculpture bears no resemblance to taluses so it just feels like an artist's excuse to have the city bankroll his shiny dream project. Strangely the Talus Dome is located next to a busy freeway, so it's always dirty and often very windy and noisy, which makes it difficult to linger near and enjoy. Overall it's far from my favourite art installation in Edmonton.

It’s Edmonton’s most expensive, most exposed and best piece of public art, a massive pile of roughly one thousand gigantic silver balls located at the southeast on-ramp of the Quesnell bridge. It’s called the Talus Dome, it’s been around only for a few weeks, but it’s already loved, hated and been defaced. What’s happened with the Talus Dome sculpture is about what you’d expect from a provocative piece of art that cost $600,000 of public money, that evokes strong feelings with its unusual design, and that is not cloistered in an art gallery but stands out beside a major commuter route, where tens of thousands see it each day.

Of course placement is off and it's not the most loved piece of artwork. However the Talus Dome is something that unites Edmonton in it's favorite activity: complaining. Never before has a piece of art in this city stirred so much conversation and brought strangers together like this one.

I flew all the way to Edmonton just to see these balls and I was not disappointed! They reflected the heck outta me, my partner, the river, and snow. And then some! Come see these balls!

Very very very cool!!! This is one of the best pieces of municiple art in alberta. It is easy to get to, there is parking, stairs and its located beside a park. Need I say more!
