The Douglas Fir Trail is a wonderful hidden gem in the Calgary interior. Situated just South of the Bow River it’s a trail that makes you think you’ve escaped urban life. The trail itself can be fairly short, or it can be longer depending on your preference as there’s cut out points periodically along the way. The Lookout Platform is a particularly beautiful spot. It offers views of the Bow River and many spots towards the NW. I would highly suggest that if you’re into hiking to try out the Douglas Fir Trail. It’s not a hard hike but it’s definitely worth your time.

Hidden gem of Calgary. Amazing trail within city limits. Short hike but worthwhile.

Great trail when looking for a bit of a challenge without leaving the city. Very muddy and slippery this time of year (late September).

This was my play area back in the late 70's early 80's. back then it was a beautiful nature walk/hike trail. Did not matter on what season it was always a wonderful time going through the trail. We use to toboggan down what we called suicide hill in those days at Edworthy Park. Once we were tired of that hit the trail. I really miss the nature adventure walk/hike. I am sure there are a lot of changes over the years. I do recommend this walk/hike to anyone.

This is a lovely hike in the city limits. We park at Edworthy park (on the Northside, but the Southside parking is closer to the trailhead). Nice vertical with a good view of the city at the top. There are bike racks at the trail head so you can ride there, do the hike and then ride home. We have done this hike with 3 and 4yo with no problems.
