The Oodena is a really cool part of The Forks. It is formally called the “Oodena Celebration Circle” and it is a tribute to aboriginal culture. It features a sundial and firepit, but more interestingly, a series of monoliths that show precise sightlines to various constellations directly viewable on specific dates (dates are noted on the monoliths themselves). There are also depictions of star constellations (e.g., Orion, Isis, etc.) on some of the brick structures. On certain holidays, this area is sometimes a place to host aboriginal celebrations (e.g., “pow-wows”).

A really cool place. On a clear night, you can use the structures to spot important indigenous constellations. Fun climbing for older kids.

Place with historic and cultural significance to the indigenous people of Manitoba. Worth a visit if you are in The Forks area.
