The experience underground was amazing. The guide tells us facts and stories of 2 generations of workers over there. You really feel like if you were during World War II period.

This is an absolute must-see if you are visiting Newfoundland, anywhere near Bell Island. The museum is beyond incredible, absolutely steeped in fascinating Canadian history. It is difficult to get one's head around how hard the the work was in this mine. Our tour guide, Ed, a former miner himself from Labrador, is incredibly knowledgeable about how the mine worked, and shared entertaining stories about some of the men who worked in it. This tour really does allow one to see how things were done back in a time before modern technology had a hand, and how physically demanding and seeming primitive things that we take for granted today, really were. Do yourself a favour, and don't miss this one.

Brian, our tour guide had relatives that used to work in the mine. It was a very important part of our Canadian history in the war and the tour itself is very well done. The museum is small but informative and the tour for the price is absolutely worthwhile. The family loved it. Including my infant daughter. Hours are seasonal, June 1 to Sept 30 at the time of this review however also at this time, on the website is a phone number for off season tour scheduling.

Highly recommended for anyone even slightly interested in history, mining or, engineering. The guides are full of interesting facts, anecdotes and family stories. They all have some familial connection to the mining operation

Very interesting experience that shouldn't be missed if you're on the island. Tour takes about an hour and you'll learn a fair amount about how difficult and dangerous mining used to be. Our guide was related to multiple miners who used to work in it when it was operational, so she had some good stories and insight that made it unique.
