It's hard to believe there is such a park so close to the city. There are lots of natural areas that are integrated with the history of the area. The nature center mirrors this setup by having all kinds of animals (snakes, turtles, fishes, spiders, frogs, and several others) and displays to show the importance of the canal and development around the city. The towpath trail runs from downtown all the way to the national park while following the canal; it is great for biking, walking and even fishing.

Went with our Cub Scout pack. Jake, the naturalist, was great with the kids. Turtles and snakes inside the center. Nice areas to walk outside. Well maintained facilities, as is the norm for the Metroparks. Would highly recommend for school age groups. Plenty of running and hiking trails as well.

This is a very nice place for family's to go to, they play movies there, they got animals there, they even got snacks there you can buy for a dollar a piece, the last time i was there i watched escap to planet earth, and night at the museum, the staff there is very friendly.

I love to take my 4 year old here- been coming for last couple years. They have lots of planned events for children of all ages. We like to come anytime and do their monthly indoor "hunt" for different pictures around the center. This month is what 20 different colored ducks :) lots of little animals to see and great place to lounge (w snacks and coffee available!). Many like to sit in back lounge area that ovelooks wooded area and bird watch :) Nice trails to walk and 2 decent playgrounds for the children. We live about 15 -20 min away and don't mind coming to knock out a good 2 hours or so of our day:)

One of our guides was very rude and impatient with the children who were preschool aged. She threatened to not show them the live animals repeatedly if they didn't sit still and be quiet the entire time. Which is pretty impossible for 2-5yr olds. But everything else was pretty decent.
