I've been going to EC Academy for haircuts for years and have always been happy with the service and affordability. I called in to book an appointment a few days ago and learned that the location at The Core has closed (their lease ended at the end of Jan 2019) and they are temporarily setup at the Market Mall EC inside the Bay until their last student graduates. After that, the program is kaput. Very disappointing. I always thought they were doing pretty well at their downtown location.

I always love coming here to have my hair done, with long hair salons can be costly and I dont mind at all coming to the students. The teachers make sure the student understands what is being done and why, I've always left happy! Sad to hear they are closing this location but happy to know I can still book with students at market mall. What normally would cost me $400 only costs $100

One of the best decisions I made with regards to my hair. Great attention to detail, they valued giving me exactly what I want and ensured I was completely happy before I left the chair. I don't consider myself to be an easy client; however I was no challenge at all for them!

Go anywhere else but here! This would be a 0 star if possible. In August 2017 I decided I wanted to be a hair dresser. After doing some research (obviously I didn’t look hard enough) I decided to go to Eveline Charles Academy. At first (before classes started) they seemed really great. My first day was on August 16th. My entire first week of school, we did not learn a thing. Despite the fact that there was only myself and two other girls in my class, they didn’t have our emails set up for us so we were unable to do any of the course work. This resulted in us being sent home all three of these days with them telling us “dont worry you won’t be docked any hours for these days”. The “education” I received here was beyond inadequate and I don’t understand how this place continues to do business. The instructors are borderline abusive and always ragged on the students for their appearance. The instructors made it obvious that they didn’t want to be there and would send us out on the floor with no knowledge and would expect us to know their processes for how to do a blow dry etc. Only one of the instructors I had while I was there was experienced, the rest were stylists that had essentially just graduated from hair school themselves. The other students that were there would continuously speak negatively about the course work, instructors and the school itself. It was a very negative environment. Mid September 2017, I decided that due to the inadequate education I was receiving, I was no longer going to attend classes there. I spoke to the admissions coordinator and was told that in order to get a refund, I had to be less than a certain percentage done the course and unfortunately I was .1-.2% above that amount. So, I am now in the process of repaying my student loan for $10,000 for a nonexistent education and the worst experience of my life. But whatever, it is what it is. At that time, the admissions coordinator told me that I also owed eveline charles $1000 and tried to get me to sign something. I refused to sign and advised her that I would not be paying this amount. I did not hear from this admissions coordinator again. Three months ago, I contacted her to get a form that the government was requesting from me. At this time, she made no mention of me owing any money. Today’, I got a letter in the mail saying that I owe them this money and they have tried to contact me (which is false. My phone number and email address have not changed and I have never once received any kind of communication from them in regards to this) and if I don’t pay Immediately, they will be sending it to collections. All I can say, is don’t make my mistake. Don’t attend this school. There are lots of other places in Calgary you can go where you will receive a much better education.
